Really hoping this turns out to be more than the usual AI-written drivel with likeable actors that regularly turn up on Prime, Netflix etc.
 
It’s watchable enough after 2 episodes but hardly groundbreaking tv…!
 
I’m 3 episodes in. Enjoying it for an Amazon series, although there are some scenes so lacking in any colour grading that it was distracting. When Waddingham walked into the party in THAT dress in the first episode, I was…

I lasted half an hour, but it was so juvenile and derivative. They’re pumping shit like this out. I honestly don’t understand the appeal.
 
I noticed Cathy Tyson in episode one and immediately was like -well I hope they don’t waste her in this, because she’s under appreciated and deserves better. I’d say the two episodes i’ve seen are a little bit broad and there is some real mugging from the cast so I don’t know if i’ll make it much further.
 
Yeah, it feels like a trial run. A second season would need major improvements. Just finished episode 3 (will start 4 now) and it's perfectly serviceable.
 
I've not started it yet, but did enjoy this Guardian interview from last weekend which has attracted some attention, seemingly due to the interviewer calling Waddingham brassy and camp at the start of the interview and nearly derailing the whole thing :D

Finally finished. Perfectly serviceable, but early comedic momentum, or else promise of the premise, was sometimes neglected. Season 2 looks very set up - I hope it hits an even better stride.

Might just be the writing but she comes across quite stiff and combative throughout a fair bit of that interview. Rides it out in the end and looks fab in the pics though!

I'll bet the question was asked with a tone many of us wouldn't have liked. So as one pearl-clutcher to another, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. A quick cover story with Attitude will straighten this out.

Also love cwej saying in one sentence exactly what this show is.
 
True - and having seen / read a fair few interviews with her where she hasn’t come across like this at all, the likelihood that it comes down to rapport with the journo / how things are asked is probably higher.
 
From Susan Sontag to Love of Huns, there's a long history of CAMP as, at best, a backhanded compliment. There are folks who have embraced it with a knowing wink (hi Nigella) but I don't blame Waddingham for BRISTLING. I think both interviewer and subject got a little hung up on it though and it makes for an awkward profile.
 
I think for most people, camp is still synonymous with gay. And sadly that's still seen as a 'jab' by most people.
 
I think it absolutely has negative connotations - the inference being that there is no substance behind it.
 
And I could well imagine that tone is everything in an interview like this.
 
If the interviewer was in anyway queer themselves then camp is absolutely a massive compliment surely? I adore tv shows and performances that are camp - and surely most people, straight or gay or other, in 2026 understand that that doesn’t mean gay.

And if there is one word to define this show it is absolutely CAMP in upper case.
