The Scottish Greens are a completely separate party.

They operate in a parallel but ultimately different political environment - both in terms of Holyrood being a less combative and more collaborative environment by default due to the voting system, and the fact that the independence question continuing to be an important dividing line in Scottish politics (meaning they pick up votes simply for being pro-independence but not the long-governing SNP).

As Penny says, they're also on a different timeline in terms of being established as a credible political party.

So comparisons to the Green Party of England and Wales are a bit limited and lazy imo.
 
It'll be interesting to see what the dynamics are like with E+W Green MPs if the Scottish Greens manage to get an MP at the next election and whether they might have more of a professionalised approach compared to a lot of them. I can see them gaining Glasgow South.

Yep - and also one who is on a one-woman hate campaign against Caroline Lucas at the moment, to give an idea of how well she plays with others / is remotely the kind of person who has any idea when it comes to what a 30% strategy should look like for the Greens :D

Only because the Lib Dems had a leader with next to zero political experience / nouse who just read well on camera. They could and should always have adopted Confidence and Supply.

Easy to say in retrospect.

Lib Dems at the time had spent years and years trying to persuade everyone they could be a serious part of government, or indeed in government. They did what they were voted to do.

a misstep I think if he abandons this.

you can't view every trial through a lens of Hillsborough. some don't need juries. the system does need reform with fewer jury trials, because the backlog is so huge and too many cases never even make it to court due to intimidation, rape/violent crime victims getting cold feet or not wanting to give five years of their life to a trial, etc.
 
Oh she grew up in Belfast. She sounds like she went to Uni in Bristol, and picked up a bit too much Bristolian accent.

It’s not that uncommon of a view point among the more far-left radical socialist wing that she’s always aligned with. Corbyn probably feels the same, Zarah Sultana almost certainly does. (So I guess there’s one thing they can agree on… :side-eye: )

The Canary, a very popular far-left publication quite frequently posts pro-Russia/anti Ukraine & NATO content.

I can squint and vagely sort of understand why you might be anti-nato, but to be pro-russia, particularly when their solution to the so called nato problem is invading ukraine and killing thousands? No.
 
That's been her stance pretty much since the outbreak of the invasion in 2022 alongside the likes of John McDonnell, Corbyn and others aligned to the Stop The War Coalition.

It's campism. They default to taking the other side of whatever side they perceive the US as being on. It's quite a big historical issue with the radical left because it leads them down some frankly batshit and immoral dead ends - there's a fair bit of it about in the DSA in America too. It's a fairly common view in that strand of politics to essentially just think Ukraine is a puppet of the US (and that the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity were 'CIA coups'), and they typically parrot the 'Nazi' propaganda too.

I think it's currently more anti-Nato and the USA. If the rotten imperialist capitalists hadn't expanded their membership to include the Baltic states and countries from the former Eastern Bloc, Putin wouldn't have felt threatened and invaded Ukraine. And because war is bad, Ukraine should stop fighting and just cede its invaded territory to Russia.

There's no consideration among the far left that many in the former Eastern Bloc chose to pivot towards the West/Nato to protect themselves from a post-Soviet Russia. Nor do they seem to accept the realities of how Putin operates - diplomacy is a weakness of the West which he can exploit, and Russia has an absolute right to interfere in the affairs of the countries under its perceived sphere of influence.

It's not the worst idea, I mean growing vegetables is an incredibly satisfying thing to do.

Wouldn't give me a reason to agree that cunt though. Doubt he's eaten a vegetable since childhood.
 
It's a lovely idea but I imagine the % of the British population who actually have a garden with which to grow tomatoes for our insects and squirrels to feed on is EVER SHRINKING
