Ariana Grande - petal

That final noise made me physically recoil. :D

She really does have tremendously poor taste in men.

The concert finale where she
recreates the Eternal Sunshine album cover is just epic ugh

Wait, this HUNK OF SPUNK is back on the market!? :horny:

Absolute garbage in bed I imagine

I dunno, you'd be surprised at how freaky some of these dorky theater dudes are.

Track lengths via Spotify:

1. "kiss me" (3:39)
2. "hate that i made you love me" (3:17)
3. "petal" (3:04)
4. "stay" (2:28)
5. "oh well" (3:16)
6. "big feelings" (2:53)
7. "freak" (3:19)
8. "warning signs (interlude)" (1:17)
9. "like i do" (2:47)
10. "never get over me" (3:48)
11. "bad thing (bunny hop)" (3:28)
12. "nowhere, nobody" (2:52)

It definitely is less full on pop than eternal sunshine.

My initial pick is freak and bad thing stood out as well for being a bit of a switch up.

Washed over me on first listen but I suppose that's to be expected.

oh it's very good actually. I probably enjoyed it as much as eternal sunshine on first listen.

standouts - Kiss Me, Bunny Hop, Freak, Never Get Over Me and especially Nowhere, Nobody.

Queen of background coffee shop music. Would it kill her to ramp up the tempo just now and again?

That said “Freak” sounds absolutely phenomenal on first listen. I will go back to this.

It’s 36 minutes long but felt like an hour. I’ll definitely be listening again though, as her stuff usually grows on me.

Yeah my initial impression is it all sounds the same and her vocals don’t help but will persist cause there is always a bop or two

The title track/new single is the kind of TUNELESS SLOP that I thought she'd moved past

Kiss Me is nice because it sounds different but it's giving crumbs. I dunno guys, I'm struggling with this :( I still think that she gets away with recording stuff like this because she's fucking Ariana Grande (and because, well, it sells by the bucketloads obvs - she's got some rabid fans).

The album sounds fine but it’s way too samey, way too safe and way too plodding.

I hope the album gets thrashed and it gives her a kick up the arse.

That being said I think once I hand pick a couple of gems out of this gloop, I’m going to really like them

I only got four songs in (not because it was bad) and it all sounded fine?

I’m far more of an Into You boy than whatever that 2019 ish mumble era was, but this seems an ok bridge between the two? She launched the last album with a Vogue banger followed by a Robyn banger so it’s not like she never gives it what I’m after.

This has got some nice moments, and it’s got some good songs in isolation but yes, “plodding” was what came to mind upon first listen.

Probably in the bottom half of her discography rather than the too half.

I had not watched the video yet but just came across this.

not to speculate but I feel like she's playing dangerously with her health at this point. the shoulders, the ribs...

there’s a lot going on there and there’s a lot of discourse about her being skin and bones since the start of the tour.

She’s looked rather ill for years, but yeah the tour photos are shocking.

She's making listless bland music since she gave up on pop.

IT'S ALL RATHER A SAD WASTE REALLY.

I saw a bit of the video this morning and I was quite shocked at how thin she is. There's a definite difference between bodyshaming and noting something with genuine concern and I feel like a lot of the commentary is in the latter bracket.

I’m enjoying this album though I’m in the minority who do prefer when she’s in this kind of mode. However, if you’re going to make an album which you’re billing as “angry” at least have better diction on your delivery so that I at least know what the heck you’re saying.

Yes I do think the diction has RELAPSED a bit

The vocals are always technically good but there’s no emotion coming from it. It’s all mumbly nonsense. If you listen to this and dangerous woman back to back, it’s quite the difference. the last album she seemed to annunciate more but seems to have regressed again.
