Ariana Grande - petal (1 Viewer)

The melodies have also relapsed. I can’t get over how much of a slog this album feels and yet it’s relatively short.

I’m enjoying this album though I’m in the minority who do prefer when she’s in this kind of mode. However, if you’re going to make an album which you’re billing as “angry” at least have better diction on your delivery so that I at least know what the heck you’re saying.
Maybe she’s (D)angry? You know you can’t spell danger without anger. Iykyk

not to speculate but I feel like she's playing dangerously with her health at this point. the shoulders, the ribs...

A small thing, but there's a moment in the video where we see the notes of the men she's auditioning for and one of them says "wouldn't hurt to lose a lb".

How did the director, record label etc not look at the finished product and go "let's maybe leave that detail on the cutting room floor"?

Because she’s literally showing us what has led her to this point, each round of directors notes critique her for something else and she comes back having addressed it and they add more and more until they say go back to how you used to be. She’s had it.

I think, also based on the Petals video, that she’s not going to be doing music going forward and she has found a softer and kinder appreciation from her acting, hence the scene within the scene with a director and then her Hollywood walk of fame star being for acting, not music.

I understand the narrative of the video completely, it's just that, while it's obviously satirising the unfair treatment she's received, she has a really young audience post-Wicked, and I think vulnerable audiences might internalise it differently. When someone visibly thin is shown being rejected for being too fat, it could trigger unhealthy thoughts about body image, or reinforce eating disorder logic.

But I also don't want to be the ART POLICE and it's a blink and you'll miss it thing.

After a few listens it is really rather boring, isn’t it :D Like she is doing Madison Beer but forgot to chuck a Yes Baby or Make You Mine on it to give it some life.

I’m not well versed on her albums, but I listened to Eternal Sunshine afterwards and it wasn’t really any more lively so I’m surprised that one seems to get quite a bit of love.

It’s not bad, either, it’s just a bit…there. Kiss Me is pretty good, but even it could use a slight switch up on the hook.

it did 227k. first day streams were level (58m, 62m). so depending on how it holds 300k seems a lot but maybe she's sold more vinyl this time (despite the terrible artwork)?

And I’ve been hearing a lot of the physical preorders have been delayed for dispatch until next week so not sure how that will affect things

It's definitely growing on me with repeated listens. I much preferred her last album, but I'm getting into this one.

I wouldn’t mind if she did deep moody shit well, but she just doesn’t, no matter how many times she insists on going to that well.

When you think of someone like Erika de Casier, who lives in that world. Everything she does is leagues better than Ariana’s attempts. She understands that space in a way that Ariana does not. It’s like Ariana is deliberately trying to undersell her music. It’s especially frustrating when her pop and in particular her soulful pop is actually really fucking good.

Ariana Grande is taking a break.

After her Eternal Sunshine tour wraps in London on Sept. 1, the singer, 33, will be stepping away from the public eye, as scrutiny surrounding her health and body intensifies.

A representative for Grande tells PEOPLE exclusively, “Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour.”

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” the rep continues. “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”

A source close to Grande tells PEOPLE of the singer, “She performs a very physical show, and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night.”

I feel like it wouldn't be surprising if she ends her tour prematurely before the London run of dates start..

interesting. hadn't JB already dropped out of the play? maybe that made it an easier decision. I guess there's a lot going on with her right now that we may never be privy to.

He is still in it...someone I work with him is low key obsessed with him and she won't stop going on about it.

Selena projecting for the room? in her whisper register? :eyes:

I saw a bit of the video this morning and I was quite shocked at how thin she is. There's a definite difference between bodyshaming and noting something with genuine concern and I feel like a lot of the commentary is in the latter bracket.
To follow on from octy, I think it's got to a point where it is quite genuine concern/shock as opposed to trying to body shame, and I think this response from Team Ari is rather defensive. If there's no problem, why not acknowledge the concern and thank her fans for their care, but that she needs to take some time out?

There was a similar thing after the Sweetener tour where she said she needed time out for her mental health but it was quite an accusatory tone to it.

Obviously the press is awful but are they that awful to her? I thought she was generally pretty celebrated, though this is now overshadowing her job. I suppose she got stick for "HOMEWRECKING"...

In any event I hope she gets the help she needs if she needs it, during this break...

World tour and new album didn't need to be scheduled this year. She should go private and try getting healthy both physically and mentally. This situation is getting a bit too uncomfortable to comment on.

I suppose the worry and reason for the defensive tone of the statement is she's just not in a place where she wants to acknowledge a problem or deal with it, and would rather lash out. probably quite standard behaviour for somebody suffering with an eating disorder. let's hope that some time out might be good for her.

Albums happen when they happen - inspiration is fickle and I absolutely get why she wanted to make new music while the words was fighting to get out of her and then just get it out there. The expected promotional cycle is another matter entirely.

In any case I think it's good that she is prioritising her health.
There’s no suggestion that she’s doing that. Her team’s message is “she’s taking a step back because of the scrutiny and she’s actually very healthy”

I think like any addict towards the end she’s retreating from public life so she can indulge without scrutiny rather than getting better. I’m with Jameela Jamil on this, everyone’s trying to be PC and not comment on her body but it’s clear a strict intervention is needed to stop her from dying, but the tone of that statement suggests her team are not taking this seriously.

As it stood Sunday In The Park With George was going to be, I think, really problematic re audiences because of the kind of fame she currently has. I think it would have been stressful. I think this is wise.

what kind of intervention though? ED sufferers have to decide for themselves they don't want to die. interventions notoriously fail or are taken as complimentary because it means they're as skinny as they want to be.

I'm also with Jameela to a degree but we can't shame somebody suffering this disease into getting better. it just doesn't work.

You can’t help her but you can put pressure on her team to stop enabling her. That video should never have come out. Her comms team blaming scrutiny about her appearance for her dropping out of the play is irresponsible.

We’re all assuming eating disorder, but to be fair we have no idea. I'm not saying it's not the most obvious explanation, but she could be dealing with any number of health issues causing this weight loss.

Also some of the posts I've seen are truly sociopathic. Why would you a) say something like this and b) tag her on it?!

Whatever it is all the Internet commentary in the world isn't going to help. I hope she gets the help to heal.

THIS. We have no fucking idea about this. It makes me so angry and don't get me started on "feminist champion" Jameela Jamil making presumptions that fit her narrative quite happily. "She's possibly dying right in front of us" is not fucking helpful, but it's great clickbait and will up her engagement rate!

And I add to the chorus of, if it is an eating disorder, her being the focus of massive internet scrutiny is not going to help. It's not only uncomfortable, it's disgusting and, yes, unhinged. It's been announced she's taking a step back, for whatever reason but likely to get help, which is what people have basically been asking for/worried about and the discourse suddenly changes to "they shouldn't say she's healthy", "they shouldn't be defensive", "she should cancel all her concerts", "she should not have released an album"- and there's evidence of that in this thread, as well as across the internet in general. If everyone is so concerned about her, then leave her the fuck alone.
