Eurovision 2027: Burgas

I've been looking at package holidays - as they are guaranteed and they can't cancel or bump up the prices. One week's all inclusive in Pomorie (20 mins drive from the arena) is around 900 per person. The flight alone is almost 500 already, and there only is one a week from Edinburgh.
 
Now a lot of naysayers are accusing Eurovision of rinsing fans out of their money, but I think choosing a remote town with no infrastructure is an utterly charming way to celebrate Moroccan Oil once again.

Of course all accommodation has already sold out and there are no flights from Europe so I’ve bagged myself a delightful Premier Inn in Tanzania, Africa, from which I will be walking to Burgas. It’s a 74-day hike so I’ll be setting off on February 26th, 2027 to be there for semi-final one :disco:

^ Yeah I did a BA package in 2024 (staying in Copenhagen), and had a deposit paid on one for Vienna before deciding not to go, for the reason that it seems to work out better price wise and is more protected.

Would've likely gone that route for Sofia, but Jet2 and TUI don't seem to have hotels in actual Burgas :(

Looking at the Wiki for Burgas Airport, one of the only routes that isn't shown as being 'seasonal' is Tel Aviv :eyes:

It's not too surprising it has a regular route to Israel's main airport - Israel's got a fairly sizeable Bulgarian diaspora.

Burgas presents itself as a small seaside oasis, built according to a European model, with the sea, culture and a peaceful atmosphere. That is so far from the truth!!

Isn't this a case of waiting to book acom until after ticket sales - I seem to remember everything in Liverpool was jacked up and booked in minutes after the announcement, and by the week before the event we were moving into increasingly reasonably priced and nearer the venue options as people who had booked in hope gave up.

I drove through Burgas once. I can confirm that they have a lovely ring road and that grade separation between tram lines is not an issue.

Good riddance either way though. From recollection, they were definitely said to be one of the parties applying massive pressure during 2024 to have the Netherlands disqualified from the grand final during that whole situation.

Eurovision mascots are a bit like Japanese fighting fish. They left the Austrian mascot in the same enclosure as Lumo and Lumo bit his head off.
 
Juries will vote in the semis after all:

National Juries​

  • Each Participating Broadcaster appoints a national jury of music professionals composed of 7 members.
  • Jurors must act independently and without external influence.
  • Ranks: Jurors rank all songs individually based on artistic criteria. The ranks attributed by all National Jurors are converted into score values, which are then combined to obtain the final National Jury ranks. Abstention is not allowed, except that jurors cannot vote for the song representing their own country, and jurors cannot allocate the same rank to two different songs.
  • Points: In both Semi-Finals and the Grand Final, in each Participating Country, a total of 58 points is allocated to the top ten songs with the highest score value, with 12 points to the highest, 10 to the second, 8 to the third, and so on down to 1 point for the tenth. Only the ten best-ranked songs receive points from the National Juries in each Participating Country.

Of all the withdrawing ones from this year, the Netherlands coming back felt inevitable - unlike the others, multiple other Dutch EBU member broadcasters expressed great interest in taking over the participation so AVROTROS’s hand was kind of forced if they didn’t want to lose it indefinitely
 
Yeah I suspect Israel's escalations over the past few weeks have made it pretty much impossible for the boycotting nations to justify a reversal, irrespective of any tinkering with the rules.

The only one I can see possibly returning is Slovenia, due to their change of government. Or, yes, Netherlands with a different broadcaster.
