Dolly Parton DEAD (7 Viewers)

Just put on the haunting Little Sparrow. I mistakenly thought she had promoted it on Later With Jools Holland, but she definitely came over here and had amazing reviews at the time for the album.

I'm slowly working my way through her catalogue. It infuriates me why I couldn't have done that while she was still alive - I always respected her as a songwriter but did not understand the depth of her work or her talent.

I find myself mourning her more than I thought I would. I'm watching old Dolly interviews and listening to the way she talks about people and how she thinks about life, and she just puts the rest of mankind to shame.

I’m having a Dolly movie day. Straight Talk is better than I remembered.
Yes, I've always liked that film too. It was such a perfect role for Dolly. Just a pity that the studio cast the piece of shit James Woods as her male lead over her preferred choice of the lovely Griffin Dunne.

Yes, they definitely should have switched roles. Dunne doesn’t quite pull off the role of the ruthless station manager. He’s too nice.

I suspect those positions won't reflect the final chart on Friday.

That said Ultra Nate getting a no.1, twenty nine years after Free is quite something.

I’d be amazed too but it would be lovely, not least because streaming seems to have killed the posthumous heritage artist hit - and it would be nice to see these make a return.

I was just listening to The Grass Is Blue and became very distracted by this number having the exact same melody as Saint Etienne’s Like a Motorway.

Turns out Saint Et brazenly pilfered it! (It’s an old 19th century folk song, Dolly didn’t write it)

So Dolly might have her first UK number one single this week, great to see! It would be even better if she can do the double on the album front.

It's just great her abilities and sheer volume of work are being recognised and explored like this. This whole pining for faves to "get their flowers" by achieving a number 1 (like it means something) is beyond me really. As if Dolly would be agonising to finally get that chart topping US album, etc.
