Blondie - High Noon (new album)

Oh to be THIS COOL in my 70s

The first time I ever went to New York was around the time of No Exit - Blondie had not been a thing for ages. On the flight out on the media player there was even a new documentary about them - which I watched. I then went to lots of meetings, feeling jet-lagged and generally strung out. Eventually that was all over and because i’d never been there before one of the New York gays very kindly took me around trying to make me have fun even though I was pretty naive. We met in some funny little diner to have breakfast. And then Debbie Harry walks in, sits 2 tables away and orders her breakfast. And honestly, I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever recovered from the perfectness of that moment.

Rumour is the first single is a cover of this Johnny Marr b-side. The music from the insta post is from this:

It sounds entirely Blondie appropriate, but still feels slightly depressing that the apparently most single-worthy song from potentially the final Blondie album is a previously released Johnny Marr b-side.

First listen was a little underwhelming, but it is a grower already. A stately jangle.

Heartbreak Kid is the song from Chris's audiobook isn't it?

Spectral Eyes is pretty much a direct cover of the Johnny Marr original albeit with a bit less energy which is surprising as they normally Blondie-fy their covers a bit more. I do like it but prefer the original.

The second track there is pretty good on first listen. Not sure how this album is going to turn out but still looking forward to it.

I quite like that on first listen but I’m not familiar with the original (and might keep it that way). Excited for the album, and am kind gobsmacked that Pollinator is nearly 10 years old.
