It took me far too long to realise that working on computers was just sucking the life out of what I was doing. So it's back to today's equivalent of a 4 track tape machine, except it's now digital, has 24 tracks at 24/48 and costs £400, the same price as a good 4-track did 30 years ago. Technology, eh?

My glands are still swollen. Just lifting some very heavy shopping bags there and I'm 'catching my breath' after. It's been about 2 weeks since my mpox scabs fell off and healed over. I hear the improvement in my voice, but talking wise it quickly goes all airy if I have to talk much and I'm impatient at the best of times when people want me to repeat myself (it happens a lot when you're Scottish for some reason - although my accent is practically neutral I always think).
Anyway, I've sensibly agreed to try 5k with someone tonight (but have told them what to expect).

Hey all. I’m currently at home off work recovering from refractive lens exchange surgery. It’s basisllt the same as cataract surgery - they removed the lens on each eye and replaced it with a new one which is designed to give me 20/20 vision and never need glasses ever again.
My eyes are still a bit blurry but that will improve over the next few days. The operation was - well, weird. It wasn’t painful at all but it was a bit uncomfortable.

Best wishes Kala. I had laser eye surgery a couple of years ago & it was the best thing I've ever done. Your eyes will recover quickly & it's incredible being able to just see clearly without faffing with glasses, contacts etc. The worst thing for me about the operation, apart from very briefly not being able to see, was the unpleasant smell of SINGED HAIR.

Yeah I know it’s not guaranteed. We shall see. My distance viewing is sharp already but I was only -2 before so it’s not a dramatic difference compared to many people.

I’m 47. They said laser wouldn’t be as effective for people over 45. The presbyopia is or was starting to affect me - in that I needed to take my glasses off to read when before it was fine.
I got Rayner Galaxy lenses. Seem to be the best on the market. It wasn’t cheap! £8k. But I spend £500 on contacts a year and maybe £300 on specs every few years.
I know optometrists don’t really like laser or RLE though. I did my due diligence and looked around. Optimax and Optical Express didn’t impress me. I went here.

Ah that was my next question! Nice, those lenses are good. Most people need reading glasses after lens exchange/cataract but with those lenses you'll get away with it (mostly).

Yeah I hope so. My reading vision is still blurry though. But it’s only been 36 hours. Too early to tell right?
The procedure was so so strange. It felt like it was an alien autopsy. A light shone in my eye which was hugely dilated. It didn’t hurt but was uncomfortable. My eye clamped open so I couldn’t blink. They were constantly putting drops in my eyes. I noticed when my lens was removed as everything went blurry. Then when the new lens went in the colours changed a little.
I couldn’t even see till this morning properly. It’s slowly improved during the day. Bright lights still hurt and theres a halo around bright lights tho that’s settling down. Also have antibiotic, steroid and dry eye drops. 4 times a day.
Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. But it’s too busy to take more time off though I’ll try to take it fairly easy.
