10s! 10s! 10s! (A Decade in Pop Bangers - TONIGHT 8.45PM)

Stayaway is classic MUNA - sledgehammer emotion, big vocals, addictive electro beats, explosive chorus. the middle 8 especially is EVERYTHING.

they are not really "successful", but this second album got them lots of attention in Pitchfork type circles and among the gay press.

this was not on it Tischy hun!

GOSSIP :disco:

One of my all time favorite bands. This is one of their best imo

all of these first tracks are very much in the same vein but I promise we will BROADEN OUR HORIZONS a bit before the sun sets in the east.

Move in the Right Direction is such a RIDICULOUS BANGER. it's massive. IN ME NOW!

the (Jark.FM-certified) CSS remix is essential also.

I'm always shocked that Beth Ditto is from ARKANSAS

True Disaster is such a DARK SYNTHY MASTERPIECE. it has soundtracked my last half decade quite religiously.

I like the video, but I always had an idea in my head for the video for this. her "heartstrings" are represented by ribbons and her dancers are controlling her limbs via the ribbons. she's an exaggerated puppet in a black room. they dance in circles around her, "faster and faster", until she falls to the floor. but she gets up and eventually she BREAKS FREE OF THE RIBBONS. a laser party begins. :disco:

this is why I'm a writer and not a music video director.

:D:D:D

Sounds like a scene from Midsommar

True Disaster chart positions:

Sweden - 56
Poland (airplay) - 65
Russia (airplay) - 257

I hate this world.

@IguanMoreSleep's creative writing competition STILL OPEN!

it blows my mind that Kevin Parker writes and produces all of his music alone. it's so fucking INTRICATE and RICH.

no wonder it takes FIVE YEARS BETWEEN ALBUMS!

'Cause I'm a Man is soooo dreamy.

alt-J are not necessarily my thing on paper. I do love several tracks from this album though - Something Good is one of my go-to tracks for when I'm BLAZED.

the backing vocals on Tessellate are fucking INSANE.

certified Silver in the UK despite only making #120. it's one of the more successful tracks here.

I don't necessarily dislike Alt-J, but I don't particularly need to hear them ever again. They were so overplayed when I was in college

I only listened to Gabriella Cilmi and Shakira for my entire time at uni so I don't HAVE THAT ISSUE.

discovered real music circa 2014. :eyes:

Well they weren't overplayed by ME (that was more of a Girls Aloud/Sophie Ellis-Bextor/Madonna/Kylie situation) just by everyone around me

the AlunaGeorge album this is from, I Remember, is INCREDIBLE. the first 10 tracks or so are all high-nrj megabangers like this, it's everything.

Macaroni Tony in a DITCH
'cos he grabbed my ASS and called me a BITCH

:disco:

Maybe one day I'll get around to that AlunaGeorge album, I did like that song. Grimes I like but also find her a bit wtf

I really think (and sorry for the hyperbole but you know me) that Grimes has the most consistent discography of the last decade. of anyone. ALL of her work is 10/10. she just... gets it. and is a total control freak who does everything herself, which probably helps.

Genesis is possibly my favourite track from her, it's fucking beautiful and magical.

I think several songs on the Halfaxa album are sung in a made up language. like, English mixed with Elvish or something. she's OUT THERE.
