This really ought to have been a battle between Spice Up Your Life and the girl who does my nails (Esther).

I should probably vote Olive as it's aged gorgeously and can easily get me in the mood for Dannii's Girl and Way Out West etc, but Spice Girls not being cool anymore is rather pase.

If it weren’t for the Spice Girls, I would want Olive to win. In fact I like You’re Not Alone more than WDYTYA, but that’s not how I’m going to vote.

What’s strange about what I said? I loved the girls as a thing more than their music (even if I enjoyed it a lot).

I didn’t want Spice Girls for the sake of Spice Girls but it feels CORRECT (ugh I hate gay people) that WTYTYA made it further than SUYL

I mean if we were voting on the basis of girl power or moments (particularly ones that happened 15 years later), then sure, I get it.

But I thought SUYL is just a mess, as they say, too much of something is bad enough.

WDYTYA would be a worthy winner, though I sort of hope they get shafted so the full Spice Loon power can get 2B1 to 1996 victory

I realised this is the same reason I hate things like the Oscars - it’s another thing where we are supposed to be judging the quality of the work, but we are still bunging in all these extraneous factors

I’m fully team Olive. That song turned vocalist Ruth-Ann Boyle into a household name; her enduring success a testament to the quality of the song that launched her.
The other two ‘launched’ Gwen Stacy and Gerald Hollywell. Um, WHO?
