You are being petty.
"It is what it is" is going low?Yeah but she was the one who was harping on about "when they go low we go high". I dunno maybe I'm being petty.

I hate ‘it is what it is’ in general. It’s something you say to mask your fury at being voted out of Big Brother, it has no place in politics.
When she's saying it to match Trump and 'shading' him, yes it is. She's stooping to his level.

Oh come ON. She is saying he is not the right guy for the job and made a slight dig - it is hardly CUT THROAT POLITICS or stooping to being a RACIST.When she's saying it to match Trump and 'shading' him, yes it is. She's stooping to his level.
I currently think he'll lose as well, but I think it's valid to be concerned about how the Democratic Party seems to be tacking quite so far to the right, to the extent that Republicans like John Kasich and (actual war criminal who lied to the UN) Colin Powell just spoke at the convention. They also got prime speaking slots while one of the party's rising progressive stars Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was limited to sixty seconds, which can't help but feel like a deliberate statement of intent and party positioning. I understand that there's a strategy to try and pick up moderate Republicans, but where does that leave them when the dust has settled?
I suppose my worry is that a Biden victory will be seen as a victory for the centre-right wing of the party, and aside from some (important and I'm not trying to minimise them) more progressive stances on some social issues we'll have an administration that'll give us everything you'd have got from (say) John McCain if he'd won in 2008 - austerity and rampant poverty, keeping the income gap as large as possible, the continuation of American imperialism in the global south - but it won't be the orange cheeto man doing it so a lot of people will go back to not giving a shit.
Also because it feels like you have to say this every time in a post like this, obviously I think Trump is a monster and he needs to lose this election - I guess I just don't have any faith in the Democratic Party or their base to hold Joe Biden's feet to the fire and demand better once he's in the White House.
That is promising, though I do think the old guard aren't going to go out without a fight - there's too much donor money at stake to fully take a leftward turn, which I understand in terms of pragmatism etc but my god is it depressing. It feels like the entire party apparatus is still telling progressives it isn't for them, despite those encouraging primary wins suggesting particular policies and platforms aren't as unpopular as the party establishment seems to think. But progressives are winning Democratic primaries left right and centre? Biden may not be an inspiring candidate, but the overall shape of the party is changing for the better.
I understand this, and I suppose it's the same basic issue I have with Labour at the moment - how much can you jettison of your core message and principles to attract particular groups you want to vote for you, while not alienating other ones? I appreciate that we're not going to agree on it.Why waste time trying to win over people who will already vote for you? The messaging to the floating voter, this close to the election, is much more important. AOC and the progressive wing will also be much better served by agitating whilst being in the party in power rather than the opposition party.
In a more normal election, I think the risk of alienating the progressive vote and them choosing to stay home should be better managed, but I don't think that will happen here. Any progressive who stays home instead of voting against Trump can get in the sea quite frankly.
This is where I always like to bang out your friend and mine, and darling of the progressive left...I understand this, and I suppose it's the same basic issue I have with Labour at the moment - how much can you jettison of your core message and principles to attract particular groups you want to vote for you, while not alienating other ones? I appreciate that we're not going to agree on it.

yay, more performance art by a democratic kween. only trump is so much better at this game.
every passing day i think there's a perversely more serious danger of another 4 years of him. here are a few choice tweets* on topic from the contemptible dnc. the billy porter bit is surreal.

Who is "the ultra radical left" when it comes to US politics? The furthest left anyone on their national stage gets is pretty mild European-style social democracy (with their big policies being universal healthcare, a robust social safety net and progressive climate policy), and the people who made those quoted tweets don't seem to be pushing any agenda much beyond that either, so who are you actually talking about?I don’t know what they are trying to achieve with this tweets?
Imagine if the convention was instead packed with the ultra radical left.
Starting to come back around to this to be honest, despite everything Trump has done I don't trust the Democratic Party not to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory somehow*.I still can’t help but think that he will win.
I still feel November is a long way to goI still can’t help but think that he will win.
