This is happening fairly consistently, which I'm honestly very happy about. However, it is a bit worrying to me that the Kennedy candidate apparently performed far better with blue collar workers and minorities, whereas the progressive appealed more to affluent city dwellers and students.

(Worth mentioning that this specific Primary is in a solidly Democratic state so it'd be unlikely to flip either way. I'm just still a little nervous about that quiet white working class majority that Trump is clearly banking on)
 
The only thing that reassures me is that the polling averages have barely altered in months. Biden has barely dropped below 50%, Trump has barely risen above 42%. There's a reasonable amount of wiggle room there for him to lose whatever he does. He's still pipping out fictional stories in TV interviews. He's not drawing anyone else in. Also third party voters know the stakes are too high this time.
 
That's great news about Ed Markey, he's one of the better Democrats in the Senate - it's worth mentioning that he was one of the sponsors of the Green New Deal, while Joe Kennedy's campaign had funding from the fossil fuel industry.

Less good news in one of the other Massachusetts Democratic primaries last night, this time for Congress - Rep. Richard Neal (head of the Ways and Means Commission who has consistently blocked attempts at tax and healthcare reform as well as being the Rep with the most corporate PAC donations) beat challenger Alex Morse who was campaigning on a much more progressive platform :(
 
Alex Morse was screwed over by the Massachusetts Democratic Party with the smear campaign of inappropriate behaviour with students. It didn’t paint the party in a good light. However at the same time it did raise questions over his judgement, even though he had consensual relations.
 
I wanted to post about that a while ago, the whole thing was INSANE - there literally wasn't an accusation OR an accuser, he was a lecturer who had occasionally used Tinder to have dates/sexual encounters with students (never HIS students, and he was I think 28 at the time seeing other guys in their twenties), and it was framed as 'people were made uncomfortable' and of course the homophobic undercurrent of saying a male lecturer did something with male students without giving any context about the circumstances. The fact it gained traction and people were actually branding the guy a predator (until someone involved leaked the group chats showing it was a coordinated attempt to smear him) shows how easily this sort of thing can be weaponised by people acting in bad faith.

And also the main guy in the college Democrats group who organised this apparently did it all because he wanted Neal to give him an INTERNSHIP :D I mean, reach for the stars I guess.

Whoops! In my defence the names are similar, and Ed Davey was the answer to a pub quiz question I wrote this week, so clearly it's stuck in my brain.
 
This shit doesn’t even happen in banana republics. Are there really no sane Republicans in Congress/Senate that can speak against this?

Despite the spotlight of the Republican convention and the unrest in Portland, Ore., and Kenosha, Wis., a big wave of new polls Wednesday showed that President Trump continues to trail Joe Biden by a significant margin both nationwide and in the critical battleground states.

On average, Mr. Biden maintains a lead of around seven to eight percentage points among likely voters nationwide, down from a lead of eight to nine points heading into the conventions. In a direct comparison, an average of the new polls showed Mr. Trump faring a mere seven-tenths of a point better than polls by the same firms conducted in early August before the Democratic National Convention.

The new results suggest that the president’s effort to reframe the race around law and order at the Republican convention hasn’t fundamentally reshaped the race to his advantage; Mr. Biden, in fact, won stronger approval on that issue in crucial states, according to new Fox News polls.
 
I predicted the conventions wouldn't do shit. Minds have already been made up. Biden is winning this.
 
Fox News(!) among many media sources seem to be confirming the story that Trump called dead soldiers 'losers'.
 
Ahaha, have fun with your base of old freaks who are still angry at Jane Fonda for protesting the Vietnam War with THOSE comments, Trump.
 
The last 24 hours have been interesting.

- Hideous comments on dead soldiers confirmed.

- Bans federal agencies from running racial sensitivity training as it’s “anti-American”.

- Suggests there’s no evidence the Kremlin poisoned Alexei Navalny and we should be looking at China.
 
The soldier thing feels like it might be a deal breaker. Americans love their armed forces even more than we fetishise R BOYS.
 
I don't think that story will make any difference at all.

Not only is the news cycle moving far too quickly for it to matter this far from the election, Trump's reluctance to start any more pointless wars seems like it will resonate more with military families than a few off-the-record comments sourced from disgruntled ex-officials.

There's no love lost between Noor Bin Ladin and the wider Bin Laden family. Her mother and sisters were ostricised and cut out of the family years ago.
