2022 Midterm Elections (US)

The thought of yet another Georgia special election deciding the senate did make me a little happy... (because I love elections :D )
 
I’ve been on Twitter 20 hours a day and I now know every county in Nevada and Arizona. And I kind of love it
 


This just follows a whole slew of Republican Senators already staging their coup against McConnell, he wants to feel included or responsible somehow.

Mitch is done.

Manchin I'd imagine would only run again as a moonshot just to see if they have any chance of holding West Virginia at all, but I suspect its likelier he'll retire. Laughably unlikely these days he'd win being up for reelection concurrently with a presidential election given how much split ticket voting has gone out of fashion and how mindblowingly Republican WV is these days, but also his approvals at home have been on the seabed ever since he voted to impeach Trump, let alone voting for the IRA.

Sinema is probably going to pull the "KALA'S HERE MOVE OVER" of the Senate and run as an independent after she gets primaried :manson:

Imo it's for the best if the House goes narrowly Republican. Far better nobody having any expectations whatsoever from Biden legislatively but the next two years being a sumptuous impotent incompetent clown car parade where the Republicans get defeated every other week than, well, another two years of majorities as narrow as the last two with expectations set to maximum.

'in charge' is absolutely overselling what a 220-215 majority in the House but not the Senate is going to look like with a cacuus with the likes of MTG and without a whip like Pelosi. Oh, you managed to get something through in exchange for agreeing to impeach Biden for Hillary Clinton and Hunter Biden assassinating Seth Rich outside a pizza parlor in Ukraine? Too bad,, VETOED :disco:

It's amazing how quick this argument comes out after everyone spending years going "who can beat Trump/the Tories??". Having someone inoffensive enough everyone can unite behind them when the hegemonic side properly goes off the cliffedge is the *point*

The New York media market got absolutely swamped with a tsunami of crime propaganda for the gubernatorial election (over and above the level it was at coverage wise nationally). The New York Post in particular were outrageous.

But it's swings and roundabouts a little - Ohio had incredible coattails at the House congressional level for Democrats downstream from how well Tim Ryan did at the Senate level. Pretty good instructive reminder on the value to be had in not writing off states that feel like they've gone irrecoverably to the other side at the headline winner-takes-all elections level.

I’ve ended up really liking him, even though he wasn’t my first choice (Elizabeth warren). I voted for him in the primaries in 2020, since I thought he was the most likely to beat trump, and I feel like it was the right choice now

One of my moms neighbors (in the suburbs) told her that she wouldn’t even drive through the city of Atlanta because of crime :manson:
 
What’s a good place to look at graphs and stuff about the results up to date? I was using the needle but it stopped days ago

I need infographics, that’s the only thing I like about elections.

This was actually the norm for about five or so decades from the 30s onwards! (naturally, the stinger was that the southern Democrats mostly voted like present-day Republicans)

It’s amazing how sheltered people in America are. It’s that American dream that was manufactured in the 60s. If you buy a big house in the suburbs, meticulously built around other housing estates, with a church and a playground and a school and a shopping mall all carefully placed nearby, and a sterile business park full of windowless boxes that you can drive to for your 9 to 5, you never ever need to leave your town!
