Sounds like a joke, but I just got an ad for Gavin Newsom on Youtube. The election starts now
 
I can’t even begin to look that far ahead. I just wanna survive the next 4 years :heathcliff:
 
She’s extremely polarising, and I can well imagine the Democratic party machinery doing everything it can to keep her off the ticket. If you’re a Red-leaning swing voter who couldn’t stomach voting for Harris, there’s no way you’re going to vote for AOC.

But then, maybe the left needs somebody like that at this stage. Suspect we’ll end up with Gavin Newsom when all’s said and done though.
 
Seems like a great shout to field the first female President against whichever old, evil white/orange man the Republicans will be standing.

I’m sure America’s ready to make that choice and I certainly can’t see any reason to think otherwise

I’d say that the Democrats just need to go for a boring straight white man with no controversial opinions of his own, but we are currently demonstrating the problems with that particular approach.

I was against an AOC run for 2028 but I actually feel like it’s now or never for her. The business as usual centre-right approach isn’t working so they really need to try something different, it’s a shame Pete’s a HOMOSEXUAL as otherwise I think he’d be a more viable option. She’s got the momentum now so I don’t blame her for striking whilst the iron’s hot.
 
As long as she goes full economic populism and doesn't get too bogged down in establishment democrat nonsense she'll have a chance
 
I don't think it's her last chance but it could be the dems' last chance to show that they can mount an actual opposition to populism/fascism/whatever we're calling this now. as a party they can't afford to offer the public a centrist who stands for nothing just to appeal to moderate republicans.
 
Last chance insomuch as there is clearly an appetite for an anti-establishment candidate and her youth may work for her right now rather than against her. People were saying she needed to be a senator first and wait 8 years but by then she risks losing her edge.

I would prefer Pete but he’s A GAY so I don’t see that going over well
 
My worry is that she’ll put Pete on the ticket. Now I love that man and he would make an incredible VP or even President, but I can’t be doing with the right wing hysteria of a woman-gay Whitehouse bid - they won’t stand a chance

I'd agree with this, although Newsom has absolutely cratered himself with that bizarre podcast thing that just reaches out kindly and chortles along with open racists and bigots.

I think it's really getting last year's election wrong to think Kamala lost because she was a woman rather than because people hated the inflation under the last government. And given Trump is responding to an election win on the grounds of that and immigration by piling on higher costs with a trade war he's started with everyone for no reason, and overreaching in a way that's already got him net negative on immigration for probably the first time ever... I think a lot of people are underrating the appeal of a return to normalcy that focuses on getting costs down and securing the border without being a maniac deporting anyone who looks foreign to gulags without a trial or any due process.

My bet is it'll be someone like Josh Shapiro.
 
(if an election is actually allowed to take place without massive interference/attempts at rigging, of course. And Trump's shown he's absolutely got the will and intent to do it, he was just utterly fucking incompetent at pulling it off last time and didn't have enough people in the Republicans onside to do it. Which might not be the case next time.)

I’d be happy with either of them as president, but I think AOC might have the better chance of winning? I think of my parents are the median democrats (not based on any proof but usually holds up) and they like her now
 
From the pool of electable Democrats, I think Josh Shapiro is slept on. I feel like he's far too sensible for most Americans to take notice.

For electable Republicans, I wouldn't be surprised if Marco Rubio ran again.
 
I’m biased as I’m from Michigan, but Gretchen Whitmer would be a great candidate- popular yet not too established like Newsom or seen as radical to the independents as AOC. She would also give the dems an advantage in the Midwest states that are largely purple. Unfortunately, I think they may avoid a female candidate given the outcome of Hilary and Kamala, although I feel those campaigns were derailed by other factors entirely.

It's hard to not see American voters an inherently sexist although both candidates were deeply flawed.
 
Hilary did win the popular vote so I don’t think it’s impossible. Maybe as a VP pick

Vance is clear front runner, I’d think. But if dems win midterms it could open floodgates the other direction like it did last time. But didn’t really matter in the end last time with Desantis.

I suspect it's gonna be an uphill battle for the next Republican primary candidate. They're gonna have the burden of immediate Trump comparisons and having to impress MAGA. It wouldn't surprise me if the RNC chose a fodder candidate.

Meanwhile, the Democrats aren't gonna have to do much to be the attractive vote. But they have a habit of running out of steam. If there was ever a time to pull out a secret weapon, it would be now. #JBPritzker

If Brian Kemp actually got the nomination, he’d beat any Democrat in a landslide. So let’s just hope the crazy Republican primary voters keep him away from it
 
SC before New Hampshire is a turnup for the books. But it makes sense - it's odd that the traditional first two states (presume Iowa will have their caucuses before SC) have been quite white compared to the rest of the country.
