lately my QUBOZ has been autoplaying some good singer-songwriter stuff after I play Tori - I've had a few Beth Orton tracks including this rather HYPNOTIC GEM



I've never heard her before and I'm enjoying. share some good stuff from this classic era for ladies, banshees and strummy guitars!

Anywhere is my favourite Beth song. She Cries Your Name from the first album was also a good minor hit:



Tanya Donnelly from Belly is one of my favourite forgotten singer songwriter types from this era. The whole album, Star, is bewitching indie dream pop. This one was the hit:

I remembered this forgotten banger recently, but I guess this was pretty big in the UK at the time?

Poor forgotten Lena Fiagbe. This mini bop reached the top 20 in 1993, now she's got so few Spotify listeners I gave her a pity follow

In between her early 90s dance hits & 2000s songwriter for hire of various iconic hits, Cathy Dennis did a Britpop inspired album & this rather brilliant album track from it fits the remit of the thread perfectly:

There’s a long lineage of great female singer songwriters from way beyond this era too but Leona Naess is one who slipped under the radar despite a strong catalogue of albums. For a while she even had Diana Ross as a stepmum.

I can’t post links (what am I a murderer or something?) but Thinking About Tomorrow by Beth Orton is also lovely. Although don’t go looking for a recent picture, looks like a dinner lady now, ruins the whole silky glossy thinky girl illusion of it.

Atmospheric & cinematic sounding closing track from OUR SUZANNE's mid 90s opus 9 Objects Of Desire, an album well worth checking out.

A few years after Show Me Heaven hit number 1 in the UK, Maria McKee again showcased that she's an artist that can't be easily categorised with this genius twangy acoustic ballad from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack:

It's years older than the 90s & 00s remit of the thread, but the way this song wraps up bitter & poignant lyrics in cosy music & a warm vocal is a work of genius. I've always meant to explore OUR JAN a bit further.
