A B-52's Thread

Rock Lobster is fairly well known. All my friends know it, anyway. I think Family Guy re-popularised it a little bit. (There's an early episode where Peter does a faithful cover of the whole song).

I'm seeing these live in Manchester a week on Tuesday :disco:

They better do WIG

OMG this was so much fun. Everything you'd want from a B52s concert really - aside from some SERIOUS omissions (Wig being the most gutting, but also Give Me Back My Man and Cosmic Thing).

Kate Pierson is an utter QoL. Cindy started off a bit reserved but then stole the show with a beautiful solo performance of Girl from Ipanema that she dedicated to Ricky. This was followed by Roam which I absolutely LOST MY SHIT to.

Definitely the most prolonged, enthusiastic dancing I've ever done outside of a Swedish gay club during Eurovision season.

As far as I can remember the setlist was roughly:

Planet Claire
Mesopotamia
Lava
Private Idaho
Party Out Of Bounds
Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland
Roam
Legal Tender
6060-842
Whammy Kiss
Is That You Mo-Dean?
Ultraviolet
Love Shack

Encore:

Keep This Party Going
Rock Lobster

I feel in many ways this picture sums up the gig :D

I'm having quite the B-52s revival of late for some reason.

In addition to the songs discussed in this thread already, this is quite the gem.

HELLO I'm CINDY, I'm a PISCES and I like CHIHUAHUA'S and CHINESE NOODLES :disco:

I always struggle to find these b-52’s threads (I think that’s one of the reasons they dropped the ‘ from the name?)

Prior to 2008, the band used an apostrophe in their name, rendering it as "the B-52's". In 2008, the band dropped the apostrophe to become "the B-52s". Asked about the change, Pierson said, "It was not grammatically correct. It's not like a possessive. It just seemed superfluous."

Good to see that they ATONED for their PAST SINS. Just like @VoR in post #48 :disco:

Though I never thought much of Love Shack, I really like this B-side by them 💎

(Thanks to some mention in an 80s song subreddit )

I have a soft spot for 'Queen of Las Vegas'. I love the lyrics.

Rockin' on the roulette wheel
Momma grabbed my hand
She was about to die
And she said, "Child, I never been around you much
But I want to give you one thing
Oh, your father was a one-eyed jack of hearts
With diamonds and an ace up his sleeve
Let me tell you I got the system
I got the plan, I got the plan

I always struggle to find these b-52’s threads (I think that’s one of the reasons they dropped the ‘ from the name)
Well, presumably they did that cause it’s grammatically wrong.

It also makes me want to punch the Go-Go’s.
