apologies for the horrifically punctuated title - to make up for it I present to you a JANET DOUBLE SYNC LISTEN. I do understand this would in most circumstances seem like a punishment akin to Chinese water torture (with a sexy BDSM soundtrack), but in the case of janet. and The Velvet Rope we're talking two of the most acclaimed records of the 90s and the twin peaks of janft's artistic endeavours.



so join us tonight for: social justice tracks about racism and the gays; bombastic opera-rock bangers; grimy industrial dance anthems; sexy, sultry slow jams; songs about dead friends; soulful balladry; and quite an amazing number of interludes, including the iconic Speaker Phone.

agreed - the highs on janet. are the best songs of her career. I rarely dip into back half of Velvet Rope but when I do I really enjoy it, so I'm excited to do it in one and see how rewarding a front to back listen is.
 
I probably can’t make it, but I feel like this will be going on for hours and hours so who knows :D
 
I think the janet CD was the only CD I have ever WORN OUT SO MUCH I had to re-buy. I haven't listened to it in full in a few years probably.
 
by the way I've been shooting raw crystals up my bussy to the slutty shimmering synths of Put Your Hands On ever since the Damita Jo sync. what a DISCOVERY :disco:
 
There were a HANDFUL of b-sides/non-album tracks released these eras. From what I recall, they are all passable but nothing essential:

And On and On
70s Love Groove
Accept Me
God's Stepchild
Can't be Stopped
 
It trails off a bit towards the end, but the first half of Janet. is absolutely peerless magnificence. In particular the run from 'If' through to 'Throb' is one of my favourite sections of any album by anyone, ever.

And On and On and 70s Love Groove are both TOP NOTCH. The rest is bside material but are still worthwhile listens.

Oh and why did they reissue Control- The Remixes on vinyl but not Janet: Remixed? BOO!
 
I love Velvet Rope and would like to delisted with you all but can’t do it at this time... I shall listen later though and read along.

In fairness, that is only three songs :D
 
I'd say "Funky Big Band" and "New Agenda" are the only bits that sag SLIGHTLY on janet for me, but it's RELATIVE to be fair. Let's remove the interludes and:

Christ, when you write it like that, though, doesn't it just seem MORE MANAGEABLE. It's WEIRD to think of "If" being song 3.

Are there shorter versions of the album? I'm up for giving janet. a go as my view on her has softened over time but I don't think I can face TWENTY EIGHT TRACKS.

Half of them are about five second interludes (and not about cumming or bowel movements unlike other albums)! Plus the longer tracks (e.g. "This Time") are some of the most essential.

Ok. The sex interludes are some of the worst things I've ever heard, so I'll have a dabble.

Yes and by then she'd graduated to full-on sex tracks not just interludes e.g. Moist, Warmth etc.
 
I will say this - the opening bars of That's The Way Love Goes not being the first thing you hear on this album is a joke. surely that interlude could've come AFTER.

and now I will say this - what a fucking DEEP GROOVE this track is :disco:
