a moopy eurovision game

How should this work?

  • Countries - artist must be from that country

  • Countries - artist must have an association with that country

  • Countries - just for fun - can just be applied to any song

  • No use of countries at all

Results are only viewable after voting.

i had a thought. could we not run a moopy eurovision game? posters are like countries, they select a song following certain criteria and then give out points.

a sort of moopyvision really. participating posters chose a song to represent them (be it say a song from the last 6 months that's a maximum of x:xx minutes long, or their favourite live performance ever, or a classic song from their country if we have a nationally diverse enough group) and we put them all in a playlist and watch them together and then vote eurovision style?

Jætike (RIP) had a good idea (before getting it all wrong) and we could do it, it fits here and it would be fun: unknown cover versions of well known songs. It doesn't have to be Eurovision, so everyone could play. You have millions of unique covers on youtube, so there's a lot to choose from. I was actually thinking of running this someday, but I didn't know if there would be any interest.
 
hm... yes, it's like a song for moopy but i think it would be better if it's got visuals - i imagine it'd be more fun watching?

just shooting in the dark here so if anyone has any ideas bring, let them rip.

i think we need to start by deciding whether we want to make it more international and if it should be current or say choose songs from past decades?

Themes... decades, countries, genres and well themes e.g. songs about money, death, politics, summer songs etc etc.

There are really original ones out there, I don't mean someone with a guitar doing a Bieber cover. I find that more interesting than choosing a random song like they do everyone else, but that was just an idea. :square:
 
If it's Eurovision inspired, I'd be quite happy to be allocated a country and champion it to the death.

Though they would need to be countries with an actual music industry so to speak e.g. no San Marino or Andorras. Although maybe that is part of the challenge.
 
i like the idea of it being international. though i would also enjoy everyone picked a song they'd select for this year's edition for example.

it'd be nice to have live performances of the songs which we can chuck into a playlist.
perhaps someone/a couple of people could host so we can put pre-recorded segments into the playlist and maybe (the less shy) posters presenting their songs in short videos?

Come up with a treatment for this idea and have it on my desk by Friday. I like what I'm hearing of this so far.
 
I’m sure I have already suggested this in the past! But yes I’m def up for it. We could have themes - or we Could do World Vision and maybe have semi finals for each continent (anyone fancy taking on Laos?). If a bunch of us are up for hosting it we can take turns on each one.

We’d probably need to think of a way to allocate countries but we can do an online randomiser and film the screen running it?
 
I think keeping it simple to start - random country allocation and then you have to choose a song by an act from that nation? Doesn’t matter when it’s from as long as you’re passionate about it.
 
Okay - ANY SONG from ANYONE and the country you are is just symbolic rather than of any importance

I tried to play one on twitter recently but the stipulations were so rigid (has to be released between x and y date, cannot have been released abroad, cannot have any connections to Eurovision) that I just totally lost interest, particularly as I was given LITHUANIA.
 
i don't like random allocation either, i agree you should be passionate about the song.
there are plenty of non-uk people and even then we can let posters choose countries if they're not happy with their own.
 
I think we have to have some sort of allocation though - certain countries are going to be much more popular than others. Unless anyone can come up with another way to allocate the countries? Perhaps we could randomly order the list of those who want to take part and they select a country, and then move down the list? We definitely need to have at most one song per country. Not here for 5 songs from Germany etc.

Let's try one with no theme for the first one and see how it goes, and if it goes well then we could look at doing different themes? Christmas, specific years, girl groups, songs from movies etc, the list is endless! Perhaps everyone suggests a theme after each contest is over, and then we vote on it.

I've got loads of time to do this as I'm signed off work for another month, so I am happy to run the first one? Unless anyone else wants to give it a go? Could get something up and running this week?
 
Could we do a really broad topic first time like shock horror male artists.
 
My only input would be to remove the Eurovision out the title and out the forum, as it really has nothing to do with it. Otherwise I'm here for this whatever format it takes.
 
I do think the artist should be from the country though, otherwise there is no point in having the country allocation. I think half the challenge is trying to find a song from a country!
 
Also, yes to this being out of the Eurovision forum BUT I was thinking, with all these things we are running now, Family Fortunes, Scavenger Hunt, Mafia, would it not be better if we had a Games subforum? I think it would be good to keep everything in there. Thoughts?
 
How about we create a Moopy Song Contest member on here? Like the one that was for A Song For Moopy? I can create a moopysongcontest Gmail account for it. And then whoever is hosting that edition takes control of the profile.

I like the idea of random allocation. I quite like the idea of trawling through the stars of St Kitts & Nevis, it’ll be a chance to find a couple of gems I’d never have heard otherwise.

but some people actually are from other countries and will always know more stuff. it doesn't have to be one thing or another at any rate.

Why complicate things? Let everyone choose whatever song and country they want and the songs don’t even need to be from said country.
