A much needed thread for experimental, obscure and really interesting electronic music

Also here's something a little more demonic for those of you who want something experimental, obscure and really interesting.:horny:

This is from a really fantastic new Air Texture compilation (ahem) CURATED by Rrose and Silent Servant, which I heartily recommend to all you lounge sophisticates and drug addicts

:D I’d never willingly use it (apart from just now) but I don’t mind it, except when it’s used in relation to any old spewsy tat and nonsense to make it sound more interesting. Perhaps “assembled” instead? “Constructed”?

"Compiled" used to be just fine!!

Maybe it sounds a bit too K-Tel for today’s youngsters. Or too RONCO

Ssshh, don't say stuff like that too loudly otherwise Stereolab will turn up...

Unfortunately I haven’t been listening to anything experimental or obscure recently. What’s Burial up to these days?

Oh what, the Greatest Hits one? Have just popped it on Spotify and I don’t think I’ve paid much attention to ‘State Forest’ before. I certainly couldn’t hum it :tongueout:

Although I've just remembered he also produces quite exceptional vocal house under an alias if you want to hear his hands handle a 4/4 beat.

This is my favourite track of all time. So many layers and sounds - there was always something new to discover with each listen.

The entire Vocalcity EP it's included on is a microhouse masterpiece.

But it was #3 on Boomkat Hot 100 for a week. A very memorable hit (I can’t remember it).

I think it would be nice to listen to if one were a tiny bit out of it in a foresty wood at night but I’m not :)

Love this thread

I keep meaning to investigate this thread futher. I'm currently on the look out for new electronic music, minimal techno and such.

Ooh I now realize I listened to a compilation from this series recently, vol VI namely, discovered a few GEMS. I guess I might dig into this one too then.

Oh we’re stanning Objekt? I’ve liked a couple of tracks on Cocoon Crush. Giving it another go right now.

Objekt is someone who - like Call Super - I enjoy better in single form rather than album. I am a bit of an outlier in that way. Objekt #4 was fantastic. His mixes are next level though. Kern Vol 3 and this Essential Mix are absolutely on it.

Have you listened to John Tejada? It's very melodic but more tech house maybe. These genres are so confusing. I just like to call everything I listen to IDM but that’s also awful.

I've abandoned micro genres, I feel like the last 10 years have been spent dissolving these.

Minimal... I feel doesn't exist any more, not like it used to, and whatever does exist from those days is so indebted to the rules, it is starved of life. HOWEVER, it isn't too hard to find things that fit the sound. The early double VA EP's on Nina Kraviz' Trip Recordings were proper minimal. Although her label is now way out there electronica.

Although @Win_the_game, you might find some joy on this playlist of mine: - it is more melodic & listenable than stark and bleepy.
