Richard Ayoade

This is a much better line-up than 21.

I think 21 is probably the weakest line-up since... I can't actually remember when.

It doesn't help that I find Joel Dommett one of the least funny people on the planet. Page has been funnier than I expected but that's it.

I'm loving S21! There was one episode, I think 4, that was just fucking brilliant from start to finish. :D Horses for courses innit!

I've not hated it but for me the 5 of them haven't gelled that well.

Apparently that was the morning recording and then 37/38 got in for the evening one. Well we'll see

Overall, not my favourite season as I said before but pleased that Joanna won it (even though I know it doesn’t really matter I do find myself rooting for my favourites). She was a delight throughout! The way she spins a yarn is crazy 😂

Kumail was my second favourite but the other 3 rarely got a big LOLfrom me.

Not the greatest series no, but very very enjoyable. Nanjiani and Page were obviously the stars of the show. Although the conclusion of the balloon popping task in the last episode, might have been one of my favourite ever moments. That and Kumail's bravery task.

I loved that they were such a NICE bunch. The egg solidarity at the end  I'm also rewatching all the previous series at the moment and am up to S8 with Iain Stirling and Lou Sanders at each other's throats so the contrast is especially fun.

@cwej did you come around to Joel by the end? I ADORED him and his puppy dog energy :D

Nope. I did not come round to Joel one little bit. But I actually horribly think I might have some of his energy… so it’s probably mostly through self-hate 😂

Finally got round to watching the new series last night. My impressions from the live recording were confirmed - Chloe is the competitive one, Richard is the agent of chaos, Isy is largely away with the fairies, and Nina is BATSHIT. Oh and Matt Lucas is also there.

Petts is fantastic, Suttie is great fun, Ayoade is playing by his own rules.

Lucas is fine and Conti I haven't quite.

They haven't really gelled yet, I feel like the very presence of Ayoade is preventing that.

I particularly enjoyed his comment about running the Crystal Maze into the ground.

Anyone else watching yet? :eyes: I love Chloe. Also they remind me more than a little bit of @Tetris-Rock (if TR was very tall and English)

If only I was very tall… English though 👎

I have seen Chloe do stand up ages ago. We don’t really hang out anymore but pre-pando I was mates with another Chloe who was part of Petts’ old comedy group. What i’m saying is the London queer community is still a tiny village at times…

Chloe has been the stand out. Richard is funny but very much in his own show. The other 3 haven't really got me too excited yet tbh.

Right, so this is such a difficult series. Three of them don't really want to be there. One of them is having a blast and the other is playing to win and succeeding while being very funny.

Nina was at her best last night, and that's a pretty low bar. She seems nervous and hides behind her hair. Matt is just grinning through it - utterly impossible to read, it's weird.

And then there's Richard. His own analysis of his performance and the show in general on the Ed Gamble podcast is worth losing an hour to. He admits to being a bad booking and hating what he saw of himself, with a lot of clever humour obviously.

Thank God for Chloe trying to take it up to 100 and Issy just having a good time.

the entire show
I think most of the previous series are on YouTube and whatever the C4 streaming app is. The early ones aren't quite established, but series 4 onwards it really hits it's stride. I'd dip in and out from there. S16 and S19 are both pretty good if you fancy newer ones.

They're all on the channel 4 thingy, I personally think they've got better with age so work back perhaps?

I would start with the older ones.

Most of them are on Netflix too if you can’t be bothered with adverts.

Or go radical and start with NZ series 2.

I watched them all in chronological order from about a year ago and got through all 20 seasons in a couple Of months . 😂

This season is ok. Chloe easily the best both for fun and for task performance. I’m surprised they’re not winning by more tbh.

I think I’ve realised that I don’t really like Nina at all and I’ve kinda realised why - I think she thinks she’s funnier than anyone else does. Which doesn’t quite work for me.

And ventriloquism just seems such a dated art form. It doesn’t make me laugh at all really.
