Agnes - Beautiful Madness

I only saw the 2nd DJ as had already seen the set times so grabbed some dinner and got drunk outside the venue

It did remind me I am too old to enjoy gigs like that these days

Must have been 97% gay men - felt like I was a at Roast

We said about that too- fuck doing that too often. And too many gay men in that small a space just does my head in nowadays. I mean, the lad on his own, quite obviously off his tits on something
and properly raving to the support DJs ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT 8PM was a sight to behold.

Thank god I got a hotel close by. Sod getting the last train home and waking up miserable today

She should at least be Jade levels of success with the quality of the songs and her own star quality but the streaming numbers seem so low

It’s why I was a bit surprised at the level of audience knowledge around the songs. I know we’re fevered gays, but I never expected quite that much. Last night she felt a lot bigger than she actually is.

Also, I hadn’t thought of this, but she’s only had two songs chart in the UK…and didn’t bother with the second one.

I mean, not a surprise, but still- not many acts would get away with that!

I’m wondering if she suffers from the Agnetha-Fältskog-Stage-Panic-Syndrome.. it would certain explain her not playing live more in the last 10 years, cancelling gigs at the last minute, and her apparent dislike of her Melfest appearance.
Those first lines in Love Songs always make me think of Agnetha, the same super emotional voice without seemingly any effort, which makes me wonder if she’s not similarly emotional/ sensitive.

I never imagined I'd be dancing to Taylor Dayne's Prove Your Love in a 2026 setting
Amazing, a titbit of interest to nobody is the only time I saw Agnes live was in 2010 in Cologne when she was Ms Dayne’s very special guest at an event I was part of where Taylor was the main act at the opening ceremony. Both sets were fab.

Yes, I was wondering if Agnes just hates live performances, has some sort of stage fright, is shy of performing or just a bit lazy. It’s a bit odd when she clearly can see she has an audience available.

Wasn’t at least one of the cancelled Hoopla appearances cause she was pregnant? I forget the other reason…

And as for Melfest, she just said it was an unpleasant experience she was strong armed into. She didn’t love (love, love) the song, and hated the conveyor belt nature of it all, which you can understand. Her performance wasn’t vintage as a result- she’s definitely done much better one off live appearances.

It’s a shame, I think a decent MF entry and potential Eurovision could be good for her profile, but I’m not sure she’s that interested in being anything above a niche pop star at this point.

I do think she seemed really surprised a few times at the crowd last night.

But her stage presence and vocal control etc suggests she’s totally overcome any stage fright issues enough to be able to be a really strong live performer.

I also didn’t see ANY Moopy people :(
I saw you from a distance, but was on the mezzanine. I do admire her (lack of) work ethic. I somehow imagine that given this was billed as 'Mighty Hoopla presents', off the back of her 2x cancellations, perhaps she had to do some terrible revenue share with Hoopla, so in response she did the bare minimum....

So I’ve let this album sit with me now and I’m still playing pretty much daily and ready for a loon rate, for which I make no apology:

10- Beautiful Madness
10- Trigger
10- Milk
10- Wake Up
11- Balenciaga Covered Eyes
09- Sign It
10- Lovesongs
08- Uterus and Universe

It’s going to be tough to top as my album of the year, even at this point.

10 for Milk :D wow

I've been playing this and Magic Still Exists quite a bit and decided Magic has the higher highs and better production overall. it's a 9 vs an 8.

I still find the vocoder SLAPPED onto Milk to be rather grating but it does work a little better in the context of the album

I play the album a lot at work and caught my colleague singing Lovesongs the other day which I was overjoyed about.

Have we also seen she’s launched Agnes merch?

I’ve gone for the t shirts and bag, though I only really need the album cover t shirt and doubt I will even wear the “bitch” one outside.

I can see me MINCING about with a loaf in it on a Saturday morning :disco:
