Aimee Mann - Queens of the Summer Hotel (1 Viewer)

On first listen I like it but don't love it. It's a bit like Mental Illness crossed with the songs from Magnolia. So I get the concept. But I think I need some time with it.
It’s always more time with Aimee for it to unveil itself. Bachelor No2 and Lost In Space took quite a while with me, now they are two of my all time fave albums by anyone.

When I went into the record shop just now they had 3 cds. When I left there were none (yes, I only bought one). #soldout

The album grows on each listen for me. ‘In Mexico’ is starting to push herself front and centre. The album charted at #53 on the Album Sales Chart.

There are songs I enjoy individually but as a whole the album leaves me a little cold, in particular some of the arrangements.

I think the run from Burn It Out to the end is probably the most consistent part of it.

It reminds me so much of Whatever! The Queen Of Pop's transatlantic multiplatinum album on the alt gay '90s shart.

This album has clicked majorly with me - mostly because I was reading Girl, Interrupted while listening to it on repeat.
Ugh so good.

I'm so addicted to this album
& Queen Aimee
in general at the moment

There is a girl
Up in her bed
BLADE against her skin
I SEE YOU.

The stage production of Girl Interrupted has finally debuted in New York, containing this music and featuring dUb-endorsed King Princess among the cast. I'm seeing it in a few weeks, despite having read mixed opinions on it thus far.

I'll be sure to REPORT BACK

I thought it had been SCRAPPED which is why she put this album out. :o

Looking forward to hearing your FULL REPORT :disco:

Yeah I thought so too, but these things often have a TROUBLED route to the stage! But it's gotten there.

Not sure if I'm gonna make Girl Interrupted after all. Reviews have been mixed to positive but some people are saying it's DEAD BORING and I could use the slot for something else 🥴

Alright so it WAS pretty boring. Nearly 2hrs without an interval and at times it really felt it.

But! The music was beautiful. It was a piano, guitar and violin, and the arrangements and harmonies etc were stunnin at points. As much as we enjoy Aimee’s unique TIMBRE, hearing the music sung like this was a treat.

There were a couple of songs that aren’t on the album and a couple on the album that aren’t in the show. Or at least I don’t remember hearing the Roosevelt one but I may have been in a fugue state at points. Highlights were You Fall, Burn It Out and I See You.

I’d love a Cast Recording and since I don’t envision it having much of a life beyond this run, I’m glad I saw it.

Oh and Aimee’s Patient Zero was playing as we left. I had to Shazam it, flop fan.
