Very sad but that's a great age.
Loved him in LMS and I admired how he vocally admitted he didn't vote for his co-star Abigail Breslin to win her Oscar because he knew winning an Oscar that young would likely ruin her life.

Well today I learned there's an Alan Arkin AND an Alan Alda. 
I always just thought they were the same guy, called the latter but looking like the former!
