Alanis Morissette - Under Rug Swept/Feast On Scraps sync listen (Sunday 7 March, 6PM) (1 Viewer)

I used to write off That Particular Time as a bit of a "musical sounding" song.

Then I got older, a bit more emotional and omg I still find it devastating now.

The different word in the last chorus (won't spoil it for the first timers!) And the line about apathy KILL ME.

I only wanted for you what you wanted for yourself
And yet I wanted to save us, high water or hell
And I kept on ignoring the ambivalence you felt
And in the meantime I lost myself
in the meantime I lost myself
I'm sorry I lost myself
I am

The woefullness in the long sad downturned "self" :( it's ACTING! really but done so well. It really does hit me every time even though I've heard it approximately 20 million times by now.

Devastating :(:(:( (word of the week with this and Lorde)

At that particular time
Love encouraged me to leave
At that particular moment
I knew staying with you meant deserting me
That particular month
Was harder than you'd believe but I still left
At that particular time

At that particular moment I knew staying with you meant deserting me
That particular month was harder than you'd believe, but I still left

:disco::disco:

I'll need these lyrics again one day I'M SURE

Oh this is just perfect. Emotionally, this album is so good. Just such a harmony of everything at its best: lyrics, melody, voxticals etc

How was it so easy for her?!

Now You Owe Me Nothing in Return, sorry to sound all Jiva, but I totally misinterpreted this at first.

It's very clearly a LOVE song about loving someone completely fully and that you'd sacrifice anything for them.

But I went a bit TOO FAR and thought it was an angsty song about how she was LOSING HERSELF giving herself away so implicitly to someone. It's just so not that. It's about a love so unconditional, like a love for your child.

Anyway, I fudging love it. The long meadering lines that somehow make a great song. Is just... MWAH.
