All Stars 5 speculation & moaning

I liked Thorgy on Season 8, and did think she was unlucky on a couple of challenges that could have set her up as a frontrunner.

But she was horribly exposed on AllStars.

India was an awful queen. She’s got a very unlovable face too.

BUT I’m totally for bringing back queens that maybe weren’t successful in Drag Race but have done well since. (I don’t know if that applies for India or not, I’m just saying)

An AS with the worst queens ever would be FANTASTIC, as we've disscused several times.

She might have not been great during her season, but everything I've seen from India post-Drag Race has been has actually been amazing. Good old classic drag.

I haven't seen anything she's done after DR, is she a fan favourite now?

I think less than 66k Instagram followers might indicate 'fan favourite' is a STRETCH...

In fact let's have a look how many followers each of those rumoured AS5 has...

Miz Cracker 939k
Shea Coulee 792k
Blair St. Clair 666k
Jujubee 545k
Derrick Barry 389k
Mayhem Miller 311k
Ongina 287k
Alexis Mateo 181k
Mariah Balenciaga 81.7k
India Ferrah 65.6k

Yeah, Derrick was shit. He still irritates me when I see him commenting on queens I do follow on Instagram.

Presumably he's been chucked in just to irritate others.

I can never really pinpoint but there's something I quite enjoy about Derrick.

Surprised Sonique wasn’t on the list, consider the recent promotion

Mind you, I’m amazed Mariah hasn’t already been on, she had been more visible for the last few years on WOW

There's a format change this time supposedly and it is

There's only one winner of each challenge, along with a bottom two. The winner picks who they want to go home, and then the safe queens all vote on who should go home as well. The Lip Sync For Your Legacy still happens, but it's between the challenge winner and a 'lip sync assassin' from a previous season. If they win, the safe queens' choice leaves.

Complicated but I welcome a fresh take.

Untucked is apparently coming back also for All Stars, with the focus being on the safe queens choosing their elimination choice + any drama their choice caused the week previous.

PLEASE BRING BACK THE RIDICULOUS OVER-EDITED OLD FORMAT

Not All Stars 5, but having been pretty NON-PLUSSED about the season 11 cast (STILL AM tbh), the rumoured cast for season 12 is looking pretty INCREDIBLE
:disco:

I'd definitely be here for another season on the level of 5/6/9/AS2/AS4 :disco:

AS5 and season 12 "coming soon" according to RPDR's Facebook account.

I hope they won't be on at the same time as RPDRUK, that would get kind of CONFUSING

Well they didn't spend much in the promo video this year :side-eye: And OMG all those filters.

I think it’ll be UK in Oct, AS5 in Dec/Jan and S12 in March-ish as usual

What's quite interesting is that despite the speed at which these seasons are being churned out, the show still gets the same viewership. People will still watch it. There isn't a gay bar here that DOESN'T do a Drag Race Night.

But do we think that Drag Race will ever a legit competitor? What would that even look like?

How does its popularity compare to America's Next Top Model at this stage? I think ANTM was losing viewers 10 years in right?

ANTM was more popular earlier on in its run though wasn't it? Looking at wikipedia viewing figures peaked for cycle two.

Has Drag Race even hit a peak yet? If so, surely only in the last season or two.

Like everything else, it will fade. I remember when the majority of gay bars in Soho were showing The X Factor, which seems unthinkable now.

Rupaul will run this into the ground until it's dead and buried and quite right too :disco:

If Visage as any sense, she'll follow him every step of the way.

Oh 100%. Yes it's gotten a bit tired recently but there is no denying the cultural impact this show has had over the past decade. It's transcended everything RuPaul had done before and will do THENCEFORTH.

The difference with ANTM is that the queens remain relatively relevant after the show and all the spin off web shows and the gigs etc make it all more than the show on its own.

I guess that's because they're entertainers rather than models. They can keep entertaining following the show whereas the models on ANTM wouldn't really deal with the public after the show

It's also because they were SOMEBODIES before the show. They already had fans and gigs. Drag Race builds on what they already have. ANTM tries to make 'models' out of nobodies

RuPaul was the first drag queen I ever knew by name. He was HUGE in the 90s but the way he's gone beyond that and taken off in the past decade is astounding.

I'm of the age that DANNY LA RUE is the first one I was aware of.

I do remember being THRILLED by RuPaul on Mnahattan Cable with Laurie Pike though. Now what happened to her?

For me the queens and my obsession with them and everything drag race related have in recent years almost completely taken over my interest in ”mainstream” music/pop culture. I’m sure the interest will reach saturation at some point but for now they’re everything.

Oh for sure. It's a masterstroke in dominating a subsection of pop culture. I suspect it still has further to go as the franchise expands.

We need the big names to stay accessable/visible for this to continue. The pod casts and spin off shows are great, because touring and social media isn’t enough.

You didn’t know Dame Edna? REALLY?
