Anastacia

I have came back from the pub tonight and listened to Anastacia’s back catalogue and even found myself crying at “Paid My Dues” in a disgustingly fragile state. There is many a thread on Anastacia but none to actually celebrate the brilliance of what she was, and ponder on what went wrong?
I love Paid my Dues !!!

I like her (in doses). Still utterly bewildering what happened to the career after the Left Outside Alone era. Mainland Europe was waiting for her, which she only belatedly tapped into with those Deutschland covers.

Was she only ever big in the UK? :o

No Anastacia was massive across much of Europe. I think he meant there was potential for a continued career and it went to pot.

Her first three albums did huge amounts across Europe and down under, so the comedown was quite stark. But she did seem less of a fanbase act and more one the general public liked whilst her sound was big and the stars aligned, but perhaps didn’t care that much about her to stay interested once it dropped off.

She was really big in mainland Europe. I remember being with a German guy 2012 listening to the radio there and him asking what had happened to her. It was such a wasted opportunity not to continue that sound (SPROCK!)

Germany is still her biggest market isn't it - which explains the German covers album which has some decent tracks - see 'Now or Never'

Her first three studio albums all did over 1 million in the UK alone didn't they? which is very impressive. Freak of Nature (2nd) may be just below.

I note she's doing WEMBLEY ARENA for her next tour in 2026 which is quite the jump for her after all tours since 2008. She was doing arenas and larger venues up until the GH. I can see she went down very well at Radio 2 show probably the biggest thing she's done here for a while.

Didn't she infamously say she doesn't enjoy music much herself? Probably something of a misquote or possibly out of context, but if it is true to any extent you can see why it would drop off quickly when her sound/that moment was over.
