Annie Lennox - A Christmas Cornucopia

She's an OBE

And more importantly STILL A CUNT :D

The former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox receives an OBE, not for her musicianship, but for her services to Oxfam and Aids charities in Africa. She said: "As somewhat of a renegade, it either means I've done something terribly right – or they've done something terribly wrong.

"I'm getting my fake leopard pillbox hat dusted and ready. I was never much of one to win prizes … and certainly never placed too much value on their acquisition. Therefore, "I take this as more of an appreciation for the gentle turning of the years for someone who's enormously grateful for being able to breathe more or less freely in a totally insane world."

can i just say that this was the album that EVERYONE TALKED ABOUT over Christmas. And when I went to buy it for mother on CHristmas Eve as a last minute additional present, it was the ONLY - and I do mean ONLY - album that was completely sold out in HMV in Liverpool 1.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT.

She was #1 on amazon mp3 chart (and I think #2 on iTunes) for a couple of days as well. She was certainly still stocked physically in HMV here when I was there the day before Christmas Eve.

I guess there aren't THAT many Christmas albums out, and she is a very easy, minimal thought, last minute 'Mum' type present (whereas I suppose SuBo is a bit more GRANNY). I considered it for my own Mum until I realised that meant she'd play it every Christmas I was up there and I don't like it much at all.

I guess that leaves Mariah's as a gift for someone you HATE then?

Did Mariah's chart in the UK? Was it even RELEASED here? I don't think I remember ever seeing it.

How has it done ANYWHERE?

Success

I cannot bear Annie Lennox. She never misses an opportunity to make a really laboured point. Because, you know, Africa would be simply up SHIT CREEK without her.

There's a host of similarly pious faced goons to go with her, but they haven't got Christmas albums out.

What a cunt! SERIOUSLY.

How many copies has this awful, AWFUL record sold now? Let's just hope it will never bother the Top 40 come November every year form now on (probably will).

This thread is hilarious :D

I used to like Annie Lennox until she started wearing her HIV Positive t-shirt. My reaction to that was 'What's your poiint you dumb bitch?'

If she'd been asked why she wore that t-shirt she'd probably have replied 'My point is that as a renegade woman on the cusp of the autumn of my femininity, I relate to the isolation caused by my fading fecundity. Menopausal woman, life force draining! HIV positive African orphan. We are sisters under the skin. I hope you understand me!'

Oh indeed. That was the first thing I thought of with the New Year's Honour - she also wears a Stay Negative t-shirt I saw as well. :bad:

And if I'm not mistaken she had some sort of video at a concert with her and some African children which said "one of these people is not HIV positive. Her name is Annie Lennox". Good lord. :zombie:

She's like a female Sting or Bono, she surely means well and does some good but the pompous delivery of it all galls.

Following on from the news this evening that my MOTHER has rediscovered the BOB DYLAN CHRISTMAS ALBUM which we all hoped had got LOST when they moved house I have downloaded THIS to HIT BACK WITH

With THIS and the SALSOUL ORCHESTRA's CHRISTMAS JOLLIES in TOW I SHALL PREVAIL :santa:

Post 59 of this topic remains one of the funniest things I've ever read on here

Christmas message from Annie Lennox:

"The drum beats, the pain beats, my womanly heart beats. This Christmas as we sit together with our families over a handcrafted mungbean casserole, we should remember genocide. The rape of the beating heart of the jungle. The desolate cry of a female energy struggling for freedom, fighting the oppressive throb of woman-hating man. Strive, fight, overcome. HIV positively yours. Annie"

I couldn't watch much of that performance. Step By Step sounds more festive to me than her mooing sounds there.

Me and Iggie and currently getting into the holiday sprit and losing our shit to this. JOIN US MOOPY. :disco:

I hope those kids in the choir are African and hungry.

Well they are certainly hungry.

Sadly Annie was too mean to fly some starving Africans to sing for her. Instead I believe she put her children on a fast, so they could understand hunger. Just as they were getting delirious with starvation she got them to sing.

Combining art with a political statement is what makes Annie so important.

Annie is currently SMUGGING UP THE AIRWAVES on Who Do You Think You Are BBC1. :disco:

I'm surprised she didn't break into the BBC offices, tipex her family tree records and write "birthplace: kenya" and "great great great grandmother gangbang raped by natives in Ghana" and "shared needles with Freddie Mercury in 1975 - been making up for it ever since" or something. I wanted to watch it, but forgot.

To be fair to her, she just looks like a 50+ woman who hasn't killed all the nerve endings in her face with botox.
