Has anyone seen this?

It's a (quite funny and farcical) romantic drama about a stripper (Mikey Madison) who gets swept up with an oligarch's son (Russia's answer to Timmy Chalamet).

I feel like I'm not really selling it but it's really very good.

I went in with low expectations due to my extremely negative reaction to The Florida Project. Thankfully this is nothing like that.

Honestly I laughed a lot, as it just didn’t take the direction I was expecting.

Liked this a lot but didn’t love it as much as I was hoping after how much I enjoyed his last three films.

I thought this was jolly good fun. I understand why Mikey Madison is getting singled out but the entire cast was really good, with the exception of the otherwise fabulous Ivan's distractingly terrible fake video gaming technique.

The poor Armenian henchman having the worst night of his life in the background through it all was particularly delightful. :D

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. I do really like Sean Baker's films, though I'd probably put this a tiny notch below Tangerine, Red Rocket and Florida Project.

The second act with the home invasion/searching for Ivan sequences went on a little too long on both counts, but the ending was just so perfect.

And yes, I can't believe they couldn't find a 20 something who knows what playing videogames looks like. He was great other than that :D

I too thought this was REALLY VERY GOOD. Sean Baker's one of the most reliably strong directors around, though like Christian I'd put this a smidge below his previous three.

I'd be happy with it doing well Oscars wise, and with a Mikey win too - although my heart wants Demi.

Of all the songs in all the world, how fucking odd that Take That's Greatest Day was its signature song. Not even one of their good ones

Just finished now. Probably the funniest & most farcical best picture winner. Alternatively heartwarming & heartbreaking too. I absolutely loved it. Haven't seen Sean Baker's other films but I'll definitely check them out.

Overall I think I would have liked to see Demi's out there performance get the Oscar but Mikey was great & also a deserving winner. The hate she's getting online (more Brazilian fans of Torres than anything else) is totally uncalled for.

I really felt for the Armenian henchman by the end :D

I saw this recently and was AGOG that Mikey Madison was the shit killer in Scream 5 :D

I loved it but it did drag on - there's only so much screaming and repeated scenes of sass that were needed. The best bits were probably the funnier elements that got limited screentime - the Russian mum, the bitter strip club dancer etc - and I wanted more of that, but I appreciate that wasn't the full tone the film was going for. Still, some brilliant scenes and an amazing performance, Oscar well deserved for Mikey.

What I don't understand is how Yura Borisov got a Supporting nomination. He barely did a thing! There's understated and then there's...that. It would've made more sense to give it to the guy she was with, or the harassed henchman bloke. The Oscars are just weird sometimes.

Quite fit though. I respect that The Academy had the horn for him

Well I ran straight onto lpsg, a wholly reliable news source, which tells me he supports Russian propaganda

He can move into second place, I'll take the hot Armenian first (I mean he'd probably be first anyway)
