To put a slightly less hysterical slant on things, this is apparently just the UK government falling into line with what has been standard advice in Europe for ages, but the messaging around putting together a food and water store in case of emergency situations appears to be being amplified a fair bit of late.

Are you taking notice?

Yes! I’ve just done a hilarious Tesco order. They’re restricting large bottled water to 2 per customer! I’ve bought all sorts of tinned delicacies to go in the basement. It’s so exciting! *dies*

I’ve just emptied my freezer out of 3 year old packs of chicken and frozen veg so I’m currently doing the opposite.

I've always been DOOMY so there's always a good supply of EMERGENCY TINS and DRIED GOODS in

I RANDOMLY bought a load of BOTTLED WATER last Christmas and now I feel like MYSTIC MEG

I think it's probably good advice, because of, you know, everything, but I probably won't take it.

I have lots of soup. Will that do?

The power went out a few weeks ago at work and the local area. It took out all the phone masts as well so we had no connection to the outside world for an hour. I did think if the Internet does get taken out by AI you wouldn’t actually have any idea it happened.

I’m a ‘pop to the supermarket every day because I’m never quite sure what I’ll fancy’ gay so I’m fucked.
I know right

I was just in the co-op looking at the tinned fish in light of this topic, and as I couldn't decide what oil, sauce or marinade I'd like my sardines canned in in the event of end times, I left with nothing.

The TINNED SARDINE SHORTAGE had only just eased. I knew I should have bought some more when I spotted them back on the shelf :square:

We eat a lot of tinned fish and dried pulses but we've got some extra soup in JUST IN CASE.

things like this always seem to reveal what an immature nation we are. incapable of being even half serious about threats that actually are quite serious. but inevitably people will be queueing for hours and raging about how the beans and soups are all gone when something that does actually happen.

Are you going to munch on dried pulses when the power's out? Chewy.
Camping stove is at hand for the undrying of pulses and I can listen to music while I wait thanks to my solar panel and battery setup. I am APOCALYPSE ready.

Well I have a friend in a rural area in Northern Ireland and apparently she’s lost electricity :o

London just had a bit of sluggish rain last night.

I woke up in the middle of the night as the building was shaking from the wind and my bed was jiggling around like I was in a small earthquake. It was quite exciting.

I have a tendency to overbuy certain long life products when on offer, so I'd probs be fine. But honestly if the shit hits the fan to the extent that stockpiling is needed I know I'll be HAPPY TO JUST DIE

Whenever I watch post apocalyptic shows I always realise how fucking USELESS I would be.

I’d never be allowed in a gang and any community would turn me away :( I’d be that loner in the opening credits that gets GARROTTED by a rogue antelope while foraging for berries that would have killed me anyway :(

Bought a torch.
