AS5 E03: Get a Room!

I didn't feel Shea's look either. And at first I was impressed by the isshehungry face, but up close it was not well executed at all. It was just messy.
 
I loved Shea’s make up and hair (she looked like Solange) and the outfit was nice enough without the wings.
 
I enjoyed that episode. A decent amount of drama, decent challenge (Jujubee was excellence itself), great runway category. The guest judges were neither here nor there and who the fuck is "design superstar" Martyn anyway? Never heard of him and his lewk was atrocious.

I liked Shea's runway but the challenge was boring and it makes sense not to give her a runaway victory. It is a dangerous game in All Stars though, I could definitely see a scenario where she did get the boot which would have been the gag of the century (and obviously ridicuous, but I'd have been here for the buffoonery). Juju made me laugh out loud. A joy to see Club 96 referenced, though it's obviously impossible to out glamour Valentina and Naomi.
 
I feel like the challenges the last couple of weeks being a bit SHIT is showing in this season.

Last week - come up with 4 mildly funny lines for a clunky mid-tempo low energy dance number
This week - design a hotel room, and sort of sell it like an infomercial, but don't be 100% sure if it's meant to be serious or funny..?

Hardly up there with the best Drag Race as a format has to offer, and it shows with two weeks of pretty underwhelming performances.

The runway felt like most of the queens were just scrambling around to try and fulfil the brief, rather than really coming up with an amazing look - and Cracker, Shea and possibly Blair had a clear advantage over the others with more money at their disposal to play with. India and Mayhem's swimsuit were both gorgeous, but neither were 3in1's. India's was just a strong look she removed pieces of to try and make it fit the challenge :D

Agreed that Shea's looked crafty (and a clunky Hungry make up rip off :D), but at least she made an effort! Love Jujubee, but that runway was straight out of season 2 :D Those hideous white boots!
 
Oh and Monet looked a damn mess too :D

Mariah/Mayhem/India all fall into the unfortunate category of being amazing drag queens, that just don't really thrive in the Drag Race format. At least Mariah and Mayhem give good talking head.
 
Point taken re: India :D

I do think she's redeemed herself following her disastrous season 3 run, and totally should have gone home before Mariah - who tbh I'd happily watch another week of doing mediocre over most queens from the Drag Race canon.
 
And don’t get me started on that hideous tent that Alexis was wearing.
 
I kind of wish they'd give the queens 6 months to prepare for All Stars. The stuntery would be OFF THE CHART :disco:
 
The Vivienne in Pit Stop was nice. I love that Bob has a bowl of aubergines on display. :D

 
India surely has to go next week. She’s got nothing else to bring to the table. But it is nice seeing her have some sort of redemption.
 
I get that it was dining out on Club96, but there were additional elements of the Chloë Sevigny listing things pronounced pretentupusly videos, but clueless Mayhem couldn't even follow Blair's lead with it and when Michelle started piping up for her show reel it was curtains.

I need to re-watch Alexis, if only for Cracker's reaction. Her trying to throw Alexis in front of the bus in front of the judges, when Alexis is the bus, and then he tears when someone merely passed comment at something, was all just too much :D

India, Mariah and Jujubee haven't felt the need to change anything about their drag in almost a decade let alone improve at anything. I did think Jujubee did the bare minimum during that lip sync on porpose, but would you really pass on $10,000?

Poor challenge, but very good episode. Next week's challenge looks great actually.

So so judges. Meh. Did the lady judge really pick up on that about Cracker? I thought it reeked of being told to say it as just look at Cracker crumbling in elation having a moment to it.
 
Who was that male judge? I couldn’t tell if his voice and accent made me gag or if it was sexy, but if I ever get a rich British daddy, I’d want him to speak like that
 
I have to say I've never heard of him. Apparently he's from LEWISHAM. I bet he did the interior decorating at Ru's fracking HQ which is how he got the gig.
 
We did see a glimpse of that fracking mansion on S12. Not impressive.
 
Yeah that male judge was the worst stereotype I've ever seen on the show. He's why I generally avoid gays who work in Interior Design.
 
Is it ridiculous to call this one of the worst episodes ever?! Everything about it, except Alexis being a bitch and Juju's cat chat, was horrific. What the hell was that challenge?! Nothing more than a few smiles raised, there was just NOTHING funny. It was so jarring I can only assume no one even told them to put in a joke so they just...forgot? It was all so slow and awkward as well. I think the right team won, only because they tried some kind of theme and attempt at humour, but in any normal week they'd barely be safe on that performance.

Shea bottom 2 was harsh. Her outfit was like something Crystal Methyd had thrown in the bin after stamping all over it, but it's also the kind of outfit the judges could call out as the best or worst of the week on the flip of a coin. It was messy but fun, and nowhere near the worst when you had such basic efforts elsewhere. Really should have been a bottom 2 alone, but Shea being there did add to the drama.

Juju winning her first challenge with that? That's pitiful, and maybe I need to rewatch because I can't think of anything about it that screamed "winning performance". I suppose they had to give it to someone! It's a testament to how dreadful the main task was when the winning team don't get a look in.

Speaking of which, Mayhem effectively got a free pass there. She's surely on borrowed time and probably next out after India.

As predicted, India's week one win seemed entirely set up and I suspect was a performance specifically created for her for that purpose. Ever since she's been dreadful. Had to laugh at her whole "I'm finally giving them the true India and they're not happy!" speech. Well, you aren't doing anything love, so if the true India is being a half arsed bitch then you know where the door is!

Not sad to see Mariah go. Lovely queen but so forgettable all in all. She never seems distinctive enough.

Shea is so still winning this surely and I hope Juju and Alexis stay for the charisma levels. Juju NEEDS a proper win now after that shambles! Agree that Blair is doing very well too.

I hope that episode is the nadir of the season because it can't get any lower!
 
Also the lip sync was forgettable. I love the assassin idea, but you never quite know if a queen is deliberately throwing it or not. Apart from the money and legacy (which are big enough admittedly) the stakes are low - in fact there's a benefit to losing if you want to avoid sending someone home! Equally we have no idea if the assassin has motivations elsewhere. Alyssa just turning up and doing sod all was questionable. The point is it's a fun idea but too open to manipulation behind the scenes. I mean Juju was actually AWFUL in that lip sync!

it was just a bit “meh”.

I wasn’t in love with Juju’s lewks on the runway, Cracker was much more of a wow moment. But overall I’m glad she got the win. She did throw that lip sync though. Both of them were shit actually. Shame really, as the first lip sync was fantastic.

And I agree about India. Maybe she’s still in the game for Derrick to come back and take her out.

To be fair I normally forget them forever after a week until I revisit years down the line, so not sure what I'm comparing it to :D

However this is All Stars and I know we should be used to disappointment by now but in terms of challenges NOTHING GOOD happened. Nothing at all! The challenge was diabolical across the board in a way I don't remember before, the runway bar Cracker was underwhelming and the lip sync was lifeless.

Juju won her first ever challenge, but I bet that's not even in her top ten best ever episodes - which kind of says it all

The songs this season have been pretty great: Livin' La Vida Loca, Neutron Dance and Juice are all solid choices. It's not Lizzo's fault that Juju was a basic mess. Somehow I think she performs better under pressure.
