AS5 E08: Clap Back!

Oh yes, Clap Back quite an interesting choice of song for Ru right now. Too bad it wasn't a video he took part in like the good old days. Seeing him stand there like the statue of liberate no one but yourself would have been quite the image.

My main takeaway from seeing all the girls in the werkroom is that I really don't need to see half of them (possibly more) ever again. Not sure that's a great look for All Stars.

That said, I agree that it was the most satisfying All Stars season after AS2.

Me too. I thought it was going to be referenced in some way.
Possibly a coincidence, but I've just seen it mentioned that her crowning wig was remarkably similar to Sasha's So Emotional one

Looking back on the season, I think Ongina's mini-run was actually pretty interesting. Have we ever had a queen come back before to realise they just DO NOT HAVE IT in comparison to the other queens? Perhaps Adore in AS2.

From what we saw Ongina definitely spent the cash on costumes too (shame the outfits wore her rather than the other way around :D )

I wonder if she'll continue to do drag. Her TV career is pretty much over now that final ep has aired :D

Oh and in a similar vein - Mayhem had her final chance to walk the runway and she chose THAT peach toilet cover holder :zombie:
I have a lot of time for Mayhem, and she can really turn it when she gets it right - it's unfortunate for her she mostly got it WRONG on AS5 :D

Mayhem is one of the most underrated queens in the history of the show.

Anyway, great finale and season. Loved the entire top 3 but I do think the right queen won. And I'm glad Shea didn't reference the petals in her lip sync.

Mayhem has shown many glimmers of greatness - her first design challenge, the Christmas special, the Celebrity Skin lipsync, her AMAZING looks for the season 10 ball challenge (where she was totally robbed by Cracker's hideous HAIR BIKINI :zombie:).

But she has also made so many bad decisions alongside these :D
I think her camo Barbie runway look was pretty stunning outside the criteria of the competition.

The finals are almost always boring on Drag Race, especially All Stars, and I found this one to be really uneventful, despite Derrick getting back and India being exposed for the liar she is.

Having said that; it was a winner worthy of the hall of fame, and all three runway looks were really amazing (especially loved the Russian and Buddhist outfits), and I really loved the dynamics between the top 3 (and the top 4).

All in all, I agree that it’s the next best all stars season.

And you know I find Cracker as a boy incredibly cute and attractive, but in drag, with those hands, covering her face when crying, all I could think of was:

I think I narrowly prefer AS3 over AS4, but there isn't much in it.

Mayhem is one of the most underrated queens in the history of the show.

I find her always underwhelming, she and Mariah can serve talking heads but their performance on the show is a big ol’ nothing.

Mayhem was destined for the waste pile of 'ok she got on the show but didn't do much with it/were fucked over' alongside the likes of Acid Betty and Honey Davenport - until the Christmas special. That got her her place on AS5 I think. She's done well overall.

It really fucking annoys me that the accent is in the wrong place on Couleé

What an idiot. And what did she exactly spoil? It’s not like all anyone expected anything but Shea winning.

On remainder of the season:
1st Cracker
2nd Jujubee - (Shea might have won more, but frankly I think Juju should have taken the Snatch Game and Shea had one or two weaker weeks)
3rd Shea

On performance in the song:
1st Shea
2nd Cracker
3rd Jujubee

On runway looks:
1st Jujubee - never knew Juju could do something like that tbh!
2nd Shea
3rd Cracker

So really it was super tight...

On final lipsync:
1st Shea
2nd Jujubee
3rd Cracker

Shea just GOT the song more - anyone that knows anything about Janelle Monae knows that she plays an android through most of her backcat so it was a good call to perform it as one. Juju really gave it her all. Ironically, Cracker went back to overthinking - 'a gimmick is what will win it for me' rather than just doing a good lipsync. It was almost as embarrassing as Asia O'Hara's butterflies but with less dead things.

I would have loved Juju to win, but I accept Shea too.

I liked them bringing everyone back but I found Blair a fucking IRRITANT - I'm so glad she didn't make the final now. I think I even prefer Cracker.

This finale has got me FEELING MY PUSS DEEP DOWN IN MY SOUL today all over again :disco:

How I wish Kennedy had worn a better wig :D
I also feel for the queen in gold that has to awkwardly waft her arms in the air on the stairs until Bebe appears :D (Milk?)

Reactions. Quite lovely

It really is a shame we can't get this on the real show. Shea's response here is so much more genuine. Remember when Tyra won? - we'll never get a moment like that again...!

Surely there HAS to be a way to keep this secret? Fewer staff in for the finale, massive confidentiality contracts etc...

I know we shouldn’t laugh at someone who’s obviously not well but the level of derangement is quite something.

Even this is not a genuine moment because Shae already knew she won because of the leaks.

Which reminds me, Willam ripping the piss out of RuPaul's Masterclass seems like a lot of fun

It did me too for a while but then I figured drag is all about playing with convention, stepping away from reality and defining yourself on your own terms.

Or not being aware of how to write your own name?
