ASFXMAS 2022 - Semi Final 1

Oh hallelujah for whoever sent Raveonettes - I could not remember that song last year and was desperate to hear it again. It's an amazing number, and the best so far (giving them a whirl now - if I dare comment on other songs with less than 3 minute intervals, do know that I'll be listening again properly when less 10pm). So happy to have their The Christmas Song officially added to my own Xmas playlist.

Oooh there was an act i'd actually heard of. That's a rarity, happens about one in every four ASFMs.

Well I've wrapped this up for a speed-round first listen. The spooky-mumble-mas one was ultra-gorge and sadly Italo-disco-mas didn't quite match the music so went a bit Fat-Les-mas for me. 2 keepers and a few nice ones.

Apologies for missing this - I was feeling the cold and I'd had a crap day so I toddled off to bed just before 7.

Damn. I wouldn't cancel my plans for asfm (honest!), but I may cancel for other ridiculous reasons, so have a 50/50 chance of attending the live. Oh, but I do plan on making a sharp and severe shortlist rather promptly and they can play first in my Christmas wrapping playlist (hopefully I'll get all my presents tomorrow in one torturous high street rampage).

Making a shit record about how much you hate another record is a definite sacking offense. As is taking the piss out of Britney Spears. Rancid.

WTF is THIS? Is this a character from a TV show or something? I've nipped out for guitar strings and had a bigger budget than this video.

IS this a fan-made video? It kinda looks like stock footage and someone photo album chucked together. Oh, wait, there's some watermarking! That settled that question.

This is very Abba-lite.

OK, Spagna's "Boys" rewritten for...for what? I'm not catching a festive theme.

"Fountains dried up, summer ended unexpectedly, You give me yellow tulips, oddly enough. You yourself know how cruel this transparent hint is, Yellow tulips, ooh, ooh, yellow tulips."

The Raveonettes is fast becoming a staple. Did I not have this on the Midnight Massacre? Could win by default.

Ah, the obligatory comedy metal song...maybe this is Indie...Camp as tits, of course. It's no Diggy Diggy Hole but, in the company, it's Bohemian Fucking Rhapsody.

Barry Manilow? Lord in heaven...is there a mystery forfeit for winning or something?

If Pet Shop Boys were gammons we'd have got "I Love Christmas Time" in 1989.

The Emotions - this is OK, the sleigh bells being mixed so high in places is a bit distracting tho'.

Kelli-Leigh remaking the "One Kiss" video on a shoestring. Clearly didn;t blow the budget on the wig tho'.

This would have the crowd going absolutely mild.

This is much less fun when it's not 'live'. Curse you, awful-Monday-in-the-office.

🐔🐔🐔

What in the name of God's balls is THIS? How do you even find this? Who hurt you, mystery Mooper?

As "generic wistful girl with a ukulele" goes, this isn't bad. Builds and diverts well too...I think I like this, actually. Doesn't outstay it's welcome either.

Nah, this is generic Europop - it could have been tooled for summer equally easily.

Once I;m done, I'll go back and read what happened at the time...I wonder how in/out of step I am...

I think Maud needs further investigation - this is very good indeed. Most absorbing.
