Bananarama - Love, Truth & Honesty

This felt like an ALSO-RAN on the hits collection to me for the longest time, but it's since gone way up in my estimation as it's a great example of the SAW trick of a bit of upbeat melancholy. Dare I say it's one of their better vocal performances too? Genuinely curious if this one is well-loved or divisive.

It's nice, but the chorus just doesn't *hit* for me the way their best songs do. I can totally see why it was a bit of a flop.

I like it. I doubt there's much argument that SAW is considered the best Bananarama era amongst the gays. It's no Love In The First Degree or I Want You Back but it's a peppy little pop number deserving of their back catalogue.

I love it, one of their very best for me. I can see that it doesn't exactly have a big chorus - it's quite one note all the way through - but for me it doesn't really need one.

It’s a bit of a shock that Sara and Keren allowed Jacquie a rare writing credit on a song that was also a single and on a greatest hits.

I think Jacquie elevates the vox on this one, she was the best singer out of any of the members. It wouldn’t be in my top 10 of theirs but I do like it.

The bridges and especially the build up on the extended edit are extreme highs. Love!

The backing track is a pure PWL thrill. Very "having the time of my life, but let me take a moment to tell you you're a bastard".

I like it enough but it’s nowhere near their highs.

It flopping was during an odd period where they saturated the market so much a lot of their stuff underperformed.

The bigger crime of those few months was Sin’s I Don’t Believe In Miracles not being a megahit.

I think the way it got ignored by them for so long probably made me love it more.

I think that was probably a continuation of the previous practice of splitting the credits no matter who did what, as well as early goodwill.

It was only really from Pop Life I believe that they started singling members (mainly Sara) out for writing credits.

It definitely suffered from SAW fatigue as said. It, Sinitta’s ‘Miracles’ and Haze Dean’s Turn It Into Love were all languishing in the 20-30 range in the same month causing diminishing returns for the same market.

I feel Turn it Into Love wasn’t a real victim of that though. It was diminishing returns for an album mined of singles and remember loads of people already had it on Kylie.

I like it. To me it sounds like SAW were working on it around the same time they were working on Nothing Can Divide Us. Like I Want You Back & I Should Be So Lucky. Maybe it's just me who hears it.
