Wow was certified gold so definitely did better than the chart peak suggests. Sticking around for 26 weeks on the chart in the 80s would be pretty solid sales.

I didn’t even know there had been a special edition at the time, can’t have been that well publicised, I just remember Jacquie being on the singles covers that she did re-recorded vocals on.

I remember scepticism around the re-recording of I Want You Back actually featuring Jacquie at all.

She was also featured on The Greatest Hits Collection but (rightly) only the inner sleeve.

Just looking at the BPI website and it's their only studio album to go gold, with Bananarama and Deep Sea Skiving both silver.

The album charts didn't massively favour pop acts in the 80s, particularly earlier in the decade. Or women generally.

I do wonder if it’s under certified- it must be close to platinum considering when it was certified, pretty much before most of its 1988 chart run. Add in the reissues over the years and it has to be closer to platinum.

It was certified gold on 03/02/1988 seemingly, so presumably would have been certified on shipments, as it had peaked at #59 by that point and I'd be surprised it had managed to sell silver by then.

The Brits really did revive it massively. Plus all the news from Siobhan's departure, I guess.

None of the reissues have charted though, so I wouldn't care to guess how close to platinum it is.

And I'd have thought that any sales from streams would only be a trickle. And I'm not sure how it works in terms of adding those to certifications for actual sales back in the day.

Did we get a figure for True Confessions sales to date this week?

I disagree with that slightly- the 80s meant a run in the lower echelons easily got you to silver. Albums that didn’t even chart managed that.

I presume the reissues didn’t sell loads and loads but surely a bit to add to the pile. Any streams would go to The Greatest Hits Collection or the recent compilations I imagine.

I don't believe an 8 week run peaking at #59 (at the time) would have 'easily' got you a silver certification. But then so much depended on the record companies shipping them and claiming the awards.

According to the OCC, as far as streaming sales are concerned, streams will be attributed to both the studio album and a greatest hits compilation. So although their streaming numbers are low, they presumably are still slowly creeping up.
