Up to Like A Prayer as I listen to all Marge albums & compilations in order & it struck me just how expertly sequenced the middle of the album is.
Till Death Do Us Part - heartbreaking, some of the greatest lyrics of her career, with the upbeat nagging synth contrasting expertly
Promise To Try - dialling up the heartbreak another notch with a simple piano ballad about her mother's death. Maybe the most vulnerable she ever sounded on any song
Cherish - before things get overly downbeat, she pulls us back from the brink with one of the sweetest, happiest & most upbeat songs of her whole back catalogue
Dear Jessie - continuing the dreamy feel with the fairytale, Beatles-esque music & lyrics, before the fade out, sounding like an old time radio slowly works its way into...
Oh Father - a reflective & beautiful ballad, which if sequenced earlier might have piled on the misery a bit too thick.
Obviously there's other great track runs, especially on the HITS HEAVY albums, but nothing tops this run for me. A genius running choice with the tunes to match.
