I completely forget about them until they came up on my recommendations list from amazon, thanks to my recent crap purchases from Fierce and the Honeyz, but it's the best thing to happen in 2009 to me so far, so I thought i'd share this joyful rediscovery.

Pleasing that they were actually HUGE, and had a number 1 album, in the Netherlands. :disco:

SHAME that they didn't do quite so well over here. I remember being DEVASTED when 'To Love Once Again' wasn't played on the top 40 countdown with Mark Goodier, only to later learn that it charted horrifically low (even for them).

Apologies for the quality of some of the videos below, I'd blame the Dutch but that may be a bit harsh, do they have Internet in windmills?

The fascination that they have with drugs is totally RELATABLE now though, it's a classic case of a nation in MOURNING. I mean let's face it, SHE breaking up was like Princess Di to the Dutch (but OBV on a larger scale, as they were four of them).

Agreed. For the time, and the quality of the songs, they should have done much better
 
'I Want You To Want Me' is one of my favourite Dance Machine songs of all time.

YES! But the last time I did it on the Dance Machine I found it far too slow - even on expert.

I got Solid HarmoniE's album for £2 in Steve's Sounds! I must dig it out and put it on my iPod.

I've got their album too and it's NOT very good really but the singles were BLINDING

"I'll Be There For You" is as Abbaesque as ANYTHING Steps did...PHENOMENAL
 
They really did have brilliant singles. I remember them being played 24/7 on MTV Europe at the time, brings back memories of that time.

Sorry to disappoint but I don't have the album at my Uni address.

FEAR NOT fellow SHE enthusiasts as I've acted in haste and re-purchased the album from the marketplace, and it should be with me by the end of the week. I'll be sure to put the highlights (which from what I remember is just the singles) in the G then, unless someone else gets round to it before me.

Oh and can I just also say how LOVELY it was that Jive actually gave them lots of chances in the UK, they were like the girl group equivalent to Ellie Campbell.
 
"I Want You To Want Me" is quite POSSIBLY the best gay pop song EVER CREATED

I Wanna Love You (single edit) is the best.

When Richee from 5ive was reviewing the singles for TOTP magazine in Feb 99, he declared that 'Baby One More Time' by some cheeky unknown named Britney Spears was a rip off of Solid HamroniE's 'I Wanna Love You'.

Even before she gave us 'Day and Night', I always knew that Billie Piper had good taste.
 
I LOVE "I Wanna Love You", it's just so dramatic. One of those rare songs that I never skip when it comes along on the iPod. Nice video also. Should have done better on the charts.

3-way tie really for me from the first 3 singles, all of which I bought on CD Single back in the day. So I just picked one for this poll - but it could be any of the 3 really. I first heard 'I'll Be There For You' when we were in Amsterdam for a week, on TMF. Just an amazing song. I bought the album but agree with Sheena, the rest is mostly filler, although I did naughtily breach Licencing Laws and use 'Fantasy' as a 'cooldown' track for my classes and it always seemed very popular - so I tried to do my bit to PROMOTE :D

Those who have the CD Single should check out the 'Barbarus Mix' of "I Wanna Love You'. I used to have it on repeat play in my car during the summer of 1998 driving from Sheffield to Rotherham. That particular version is TO DIE FOR :disco:

Oh and did they ever look THE STUFF

I'll Be There For You is probably my most favourite proper pop single of all time. I think its absolute perfection, from the wailing intro to the key change and ridiculous piano riffs (Credit to ABBA). I cannot understand how it is not winning the ballot by a landslide. The video is astro-turf perfection.

I NEVER EVER understood I Want You To Want Me. I thought it was rubbish. A song for doormats and people with low confidence issues to my ears.

I loved that story... i guess i read Smash Hits too much

I didn't know Jo fitted into this anywhere :D though to be honest I thought the band were Dutch, but I think that's not true :shy:
 
At least one was American - I think! They were a bit of a mix actually, but not sure of the actual respective nation breakdown. I had previously thought of them as Dutch too.

Whilst all of this is ALL WELL AND GOOD I think it overlooks the fact that Precious' "Rewind" was the best Britney/Max Martin aping NONSENSE of the time...

Absolutely.

The Almighty mix of Rewind sends me a little bit crazy. In a good way.

I seriously love the Precious album more than I should. I recall their being a remix on the Its Gonna Be My Way single of Rewind that was bloody ace. I will have to DIG IT OUT.

It's POSSIBLY the best Almighty Mix ever...though "Ain't It Funny" stands a CHANCE :disco:
