Beyoncé - act ii: COWBOY CARTER

Ah, the utter arrogance of the pre-registering of pre-pre-sales too. I bet people logged on, “crashed” the system and then declined when they saw the prices.

Jesus she really said no to almost her entire career pre the Renaissance era, didn’t she?

Mind you I’d still pay good money to see the show open with American Requiem…

she really said, 3-hour concert with no hits :disco: She's a serious singer nowadays, no more pop fluff like Single Ladies or Irreplaceable, not even Drunk In Love, but you do get a bit of Deja Vu :basil:
I cackled. Oh goodie, no Single Ladies, Sweet Dreams, or Halo but there’s elements of Why Don’t You Love Me :zombie:

How peeved would you be if you went opening night. Its almost like they read the reviews and said OH NO, we need to add the HITS. Like that couldn't have been forecast. Trolldonna back in the day would have put in more deep cuts! :D

if the Rio rumours are true she seriosuly needs to make peace with her old music (aka what her fans give a shit about) and rejig the WHOLE setlist.
I doubt them Brasileiro queens will be competing at the beach to be up front Bey screaming along to Alligator Tears.

She will have seen Gaga and Madonna’s Rio shows. She would be a fool to take this tomfoolery of a set list there

I went last night.
  • Overall, it was 7. Maybe a 7.5.
  • This was my third time seeing her (IASF in 2009; Formation in 2016). I felt this time was different - she's palpably less hungry now; she dances much less, and with much less conviction; there's a lot more obvious lip-synching. She's still the consummate star, but she's fully exorcised the Sasha Fierce energy that made her early solo career shows so compelling.
  • The set-list was lopsided. An entire section of cunty cunty cunty lost the locals, only for her to reel them back in with a run of truncated hits. 16 Carriages is not the Halo (or even XO)-level closer she thinks is. And I say this as a huge fan of her last two albums. When you are sitting on Jumpin' Jumpin', Say My Name, Independent Women Part I, Lose My Breath, Baby Boy, Naughty Girl, Beautiful Liar, Green Light, Sweet Dreams, End of Time, Drunk In Love, Partition... and you decide to pay them all dust. We call that choices. It's giving Millennial era Madge.
  • Her insistence on wheeling out her kids - and especially Blue, whose dance abilities are - frankly - giving young Michelle Williams more than than young Beyoncé. And the sycophantic audience who seemed to eat this flagrant act of nepotism right up.
  • Speaking of whom - it does feel like there are two completely different eras of Beyoncé fan these days. Gen Zers who know all the words and choreo to every Renaissance deep-cut but DGAF about Crazy In Love or Love on Top and the OG DC to Self-Titled girls who need their nostalgia hit in their 40s.
  • Highlights: Bodyguard, Ameriican Requiem, Texas (Hold 'Em), Irreplaceable, Sweet Honey Buckin'

In another example of social's power over radio in 2025 - "Bodyguard" was serviced to radio a few weeks ago including a R1 playlisting, and it's not appeared on any chart. "Tyrant" meanwhile has taken off on Tik Tok and charted this week in the UK without any airplay whatsoever.
