I can't even REMEMBER where I heard this the first time because I don't recall it being a hit anywhere, but I just rediscovered it today and it's still absolutely amazing.

One of my favourite songs of all time. It was a top 20 in the UK - it used to be played on MTV loads.

The album is fabulous. The English Motorway System is my favourite.

The English motorway system can be quite hypnotising
You achieve a zen-like state as if someone else was driving
Become detached, observing colours and straight lines
Distant towns and exit signs
Do you really want to break up?

That said, 'Child Psychology' is probably their masterpiece

Life is unfair
Kill yourself or get over it

I was going to say that the album is an utter JOY, but joy probably isn't the right word. Very pretty in a noir way I guess.

ALBUM RANK

01. The Facts Of Life
02. The English Motorway System
03. The Art Of Driving
04. Goodnight Kiss
05. May Queen

Oh I forgot Straight Life, which really is fabulous. Never has one song made me so terrified of MIDDLE AGE

I've never given them particularly heavy play but I do love nearly every song mentioned in this thread plus "Ideal Home".

Charlotte Gainsbourg clearly used them as the blueprint for her musical career.

Oh HOW I LOVED THEM

BBR TEN

1. Child Psychology - OBVIOUSLY
2. Ideal Home - Miserable songs from the house next door. Perhaps they're planning to END IT ALL
3. These Are The Things :disco:
4. French Rock 'N' Roll - But you know how the film's going to end. And it's only just begun :D
5. Straight Life - Away from ALTERNATIVE CULTURE
6. England Made Me - I killed a stranger and left him in a trunk
7. The New Diana - Oh this is just fabulous. I was born a blonde. I've always been a PRINCESS
8. The Deverell Twins - Ends well
9. Wonderful Life - You can join the family business, serve behind the counter
10. British Racing Green - Everybody needs to dream, romance and love and eight hours' sleep, a little COTTAGE by the sea, A GLASS OF GIN, A BOX OF CHOCOLATES

I think this calls for a revival, which will OBVIOUSLY include La Nixey's last album as well :disco:

I might be mistaken but I'm sure I recall the band stating at the time that 'Facts of Life' was a response to Billie's 'Honey To The Bee', as in it had surprised them that such a blatantly sexual song lyric was being pedalled to an overtly youthful audience, hence the similar sound and vocal delivery.

At least a 10 - one of my absolute favourites of the 00s. What a song!

I remember them performing it on Top of the Pops.

:D IKR

'Ideal Home' appears to be entirely absent from YouTube which is a bit of a shame given that there are miserable songs from the house next door

Perhaps they're planning to END IT ALL :disco:

I''m quite fancying a 'The Seventh Continent' party now. @jivafox, bring vodka and weed killer

Some of you will achieve GREATNESS
Others of you will succeed in a MORE MODEST CAPACITY
Some of you...WELL

This came on my shuffle today and it's even better than I remember it.

This might be Ms Eilish's greatest work to date.

Child Psychology and Seasons In The Sun indeed are each clearing almost 1m weekly streams at the moment, which is lovely. But can someone of influence please do a TikTok crashing on the English motorway system STAT please.
