Of course it's a bop, of that there is no doubt; but hear me out -
I distinctly remember the disappointment at the time given the other options that could have been released from the album. And I think its chart position, whilst respectable, was proof of the pudding really. Then again, I suppose it was Christmas time ('Santa Baby' was the B-side) so perhaps that was the best choice after all.

Anyway, apparently reviews at the time described it as 'breezy' - calling @Iguana @Tisch

I do love the video. She looked stunning during the Light Years era.

I like it, I am not sure the big dance pop numbers (Your Disco Needs You, Disco Down, Etc) would have done any better this time of year.

But do you ever recreate the video with your own pole and secret pool table dancing routine Jarkette?

@Ellie right now:

Gorge, nifty and nimble. I'd argue goodwill swept this one along and that Your Disco Needs You absolutely would have done the album wonders if they'd just embraced the flamboyance for the season and let PS be the souvenir of the era come The Brits.

It’s one Kylie single I haven’t heard for YEARS as I tend to skip it when it comes on. Never been a favourite of mine but maybe I need to re-evaluate it. But for now it remains a FLOP :side-eye:

I think it’s fabulous as well. But I also love Disco Down… god what an album

Butterfly was the first Kylie song I ever heard, and I’m still partial to it, but I think all the singles (except Kids), Disco Down, So Now Goodbye, and Your Disco Needs You all surpass it

It's a bop. Not a BOP. I can see the logic in that they went with sounded the most like the two preceding successes, but in another life she'd embrace the gay more (as she did later) and release Your Disco or LIGHT YEARS :disco: complete with air stewardess chic video (before Britney did it of course!)

Oh I forgot about Butterfly. It was one of my early favorites of hers.

Please Stay was the best choice of single at that time. Not a song I ever actively seek out. Butterfly which I love always reminds me a bit of Cappella's Tell Me The Way.

Butterfly would have made the best sense given the next single. The transition would have been seamless.

Tbf I guess most American fans believe the song was from the Fever album anyway.

It’s good, but not in the same league as its predecessors. And obviously there was stronger album tracks there as well. But it’s still rather good.

The fit men and their lovely arses in the video are a treat as well.

cute for what the record company wanted at the time; a breezy Latin-infused moment to float comfortably in a world where Mi Reflejo, She Bangs, Ojos Asi, Bailamos and Let's Get Loud were doing the rounds.

Shoehorning Aguilera in there yet forgetting Mi Chico Latino :(
