Any takers for the new album for the most shameless networker in the game?

Elton must have stopped taking his calls so he's had to go down the celeb ladder a bit to rope in the collaborators for this one. Every song is a duet of some kind with LGBTQ+ stars of varying shininess and the theme is all gay all day every day.

None of the singles really caught fire for me, though the Niki & Donna effort "This Was My House" probably came closest.

It all feels a bit low rent and thin on the production and promotion front but hopefully the reduced budget will also mean any choreographer fees have also been sacrificed and we can be spared any more synchronised "bopping" this time around.

number 7 sounds like something from the Erotica sessions. And not just because Nikki is on it. Or maybe that’s exactly why.

I really like track 2 and 5. Will listen to this again me thinks
 
I thought everything beyond the very good first album became increasingly more vapid and I haven’t bothered for some time. I’m not sure the description of this will change my mind.
 
It feels like he’s almost on to something but just doesn’t have the beef or hooks he’s looking for.

I know what you mean but that really is doing the PSB's a disservice :D

"On to something but not quite there" sounds about right.

I'm slotting the awful Jake Shears plodathon "Sensation" alongside Madonna's "Incredible" in the "songs that don't deserve their titles" filing cabinet.
 
Nice to see Big Dipper branch out from providing Alaska and Willam with an education on a weekly basis :D
 
Very much agree with @Sheena that the first album is the best he has come out with. The songs are better and the sad synthpop suited him better than the cheap clubby beats.

This album is ok, there are some nice songs and some that are less inspired. I like the Sam Sparro one, and Good at Goodbyes once you get past the intro. I don't think most of the guests add a lot, and some of them are actively bad.
 
Also not that I want to pit niche gay interest artists against each other, but I much prefer the Tom Aspaul album released this week.

I played the Aspaul album earlier. Sounded ok until I felt I was listening to the same song with a slightly different radio edit over and over again.

That was my take on it too. I prefer it over this though.

I'm not averse to pitching similar artists against eachother myself so I'll just say I don't think either of them have got particularly enjoyable voices.
 
Bless him, he seems to be quite excited that the album might chart in the top 40 - it is 39 in the midweeks :(

I wouldn't be surprised if that was only around the 1k mark. There must be a greater chance of it leaving the top 75 altogether than hanging on in the top 40.

He's certainly pushing the hell out of it, and has been since about March to be fair. I've seen a couple of blogs pick up on it and give it a rave too.
 
I had a proper listen to this last night but was not impressed. There are some nice ideas there, but everything sounds diluted and unmastered. He sounds he recorded an album of demos to pitch to a famous singer.
 
I've always thought he sounds bored singing. Someone needs to teach him how to belt, or at least conjure up some passion. That being said I have bopped a little to his latest, even though he's such a fun sponge.
 
Little Boots has a smidgen of star quality but is also a well known CUNT.

He just has none of the above. He's kinda hot and has a nice moustache. But I agree the persona is just not there. A shame because the music (kind of) is.
 
I kind of get the Little Boots comparison (I mean, I saw her live when she was supported by Ellie Goulding - you can imagine the charisma vacuum in that venue), but she brought tunes that I don't think BLBL could even dream of.

A friend of a friend (and maybe another "of a friend" on the end of that...?) played drums for her when she was starting out and she apparently didn't talk to the band at all. There are WORSE crimes I suppose.

A New Word To Say, In Your Care, Disco Moment are the gay male version of Little Boots though and quite wonderful.
 
I think I've listened to all his albums upon release, and as much as I think this one was a general step down, I don't think he's ever excited me.

SORRY TO PILE ON POOR ROD for the second day in a row - but I think that he seems to think he’s SAVING THE LGBTQI+ COMMUNITY by releasing an album with (mainly) a bunch of other white gay men, which were BLATANTLY chosen to try and get some Spotify fanbase CROSS-POLLINATION streaming BOOST really grinds my gears :D

But anyway, congrats on his success :D
 
Bless him. If he's genuinely pleased I can't find it in my cold, black heart to begrudge him it.

Even if it is akin to The Fizz getting excited about hitting #1 on the 'Heritage Chart' (whatever THAT is) this week.

TO BE FAIR/repent TO POOR VICTORIA, Stuck On Repeat (proper full length version) is a better song than most people in the entirety of MUSIC ever manage to release :disco:
