Canada 2027 (Debut confirmed) (1 Viewer)

I still struggle to especially care about this gimmicky move, beyond a vague hope for them to throw out the occasional arm-flailing Quebecois chanteuse.

I imagine most of their output will be pretty bland though. Prove me wrong, Canadians!

I wonder if they might go with Natasha St-Pier as their opening entrant. It would be an obvious olive branch to get older fans interested for at least a year, probably get a solid jury vote to make sure they reach the final, and have some shot at getting televotes from the Francophone nations where she ended up getting a decent career after Eurovision.

Can't see them typically getting much televote action in the long-term though.

Or one better, get Celine back!

Do they talk about who would host should Canada win? I assume they wouldn’t host, but it’s not exactly the same situation as Australia.

I do fear we are inching ever closer to USA being included.

Think of the poor euro gays having to book TRANSATLANTIC FLIGHTS!

I mean it’s the massive country of Canada - not some signed coloured vinyl, I don’t think that is a gimmick.

I'm not sure I particularly want to see Canada in Eurovision.

I know they want to distance themselves from the USA, but this feels more like an obvious attempt by the EBU to plug a funding gap following the boycott. Although I see Martin Green is describing alleged funding issues as "bollocks". :eyes:

I'm not comfortable with the Western Anglospgere bias. Australia, Canada. Yet Kazakhstan left out in the cold.

Why not chase DR Congo? Chile? Haiti?

Yup, agreed. It seemed to veering east (and therefore far more interesting) for so long, but I guess with Turkey, Russia, Israel leaving or staying, any growth had to go west.

Of course there are plenty of Spanish, Portuguese and French speaking nations that would be a comfortable language fit in the show. But then Canada has more in common with Europe than say Dijibouti.

I dunno, this seems like something Mark Carney wanted, which I must say is a rather odd route into the show.

More in common… perhaps… but what happened to Celebrate Diversity? Building Bridges? We Are One? All Aboard? Etc.

In the words of Jill Tyrell....

*Phone in hand whilst shaking head* "Sorry......no...."

They’ve opened submissions but it sounds like it’ll be a talent show with the winner given a song written by committee (in both English and French and potentially other languages). Seems like a good way to ensure nobody established goes for it!
