Cardi B - AM I THE DRAMA? (Sophomore album)

I know she's US-centric but that's a disaster. it won't even be top 60 by Friday
 
Strong debut in the US (not that it did anything elsewhere)

If you thought Mariah’s latest was dull, this one takes the crown. Like Megan’s last record, the clunky, plinky-plonky production drags after about six tracks; only the cuts with clever samples or interpolations manage to break free from the monotony.

Cardi isn’t a producer, of course, but it feels like she desperately needs the right one behind her. I miss when rap and hip-hop albums actually pulled you in and kept things interesting. Not to pit her against other women in the game, but at least Doja pushed boundaries—bringing in an unexpected collaborator like Jack Antonoff, who surprisingly nailed it and stuck to a motif for over 15 tracks.

I don't think Cardi is really an artiste. she's a big personality who can rap and write some fun lyrics and got some great singles in the past but she doesn't seem like someone who lives for making music, so I'd be surprised if she pulled it together and made a tight, high quality album with a vision.
 
I think Cardi B is and always has been Emperors New Clothes, and I fail to understand any appeal whatsoever, but in an era of Doechii and Little Simz, I don't see how anyone could listen to this and think of it as fresh or exciting or creative.
 
Bodak Yellow was fun and exciting, WAP was a novelty hit and it helped that it went viral; I Like It had a very good use of a sample plus big names featuring (Bad Bunny and J. Balvin) and outside of those I've never gotten the appeal, besides I've never understood why she took 7 years between albums which is crazy for someone who barely keeps herself afloat.
