Carly Simon - Comes in Waves (New album)

Yeah I like it, nice energy, lovely to hear from her after all this time.

I’ve been quietly steeling myself for her appearance in the Moopy Cemetery for a while, so thrilled she’s back with a new record!

Her voice appears to have held up remarkably well, but I guess it helps that she never tours.
 
There is some electronic help on the tuning in places I would suggest, but she seems to have tried to keep it as raw and genuine as age will allow. Certainly compared to Paul McCartney recently she’s been looking after her instrument.
 
I've no problem with pitch correction but I hate the tuned sound on vocals. That aside, the production sounds cheap as chips. I'm surprised to see Paul Samwell-Smith amongst the producers.

That and Slowly (which is presumably about her health struggles) were the standouts for me on first listen.



On the whole I’m pleased! She’s in great voice throughout, and if this does end up as her final album it’s a lovely little grace note.
 
Yeah the vocals on Howl now seem a lot more like a production choice - she’s clearly still got the chops.
 
Yes I've always loved her songwriting. She's got a really distinctive lyrical voice IMO.
