Charli XCX - Brat (out NOW) (1 Viewer)

I kind of expected to see a flurry of Brat green looks during Amsterdam Pride this weekend but actually saw almost nobody was serving that. are all the queens allergic to wearing colour this summer? however a straight friend who told me he hasn't been aware of Charli xcx "since that one song ten years ago" is now bumpin' that. I'm happy to see Von Dutch still getting a million streams a day even as 360 and Apple have become bigger moments. it's become a real HOT FAVE from charlotte. :disco:

I feel like she's seizing a moment in culture and getting proper hits out of it for the first time, really, definitely since Sucker. it looks effortless but she also has remixes ready to go that can give the originals new life so real thought has gone into making this run so smoothly. her label are great. it's a bit insane this deep into her career... even as she reinvents, she also seems able to hold on to whatever makes her authentic to people. ugh. LOVE HER!

Charli xcx has taken the lead for her second UK Number 1 single (and first as lead artist) with guess. The banger gets an extraordinary leg up thanks to the viral remix featuring Billie Eilish. Charli last topped the charts with Icona Pop on 2012’s I Love It.

Proof that there’s no stopping BRAT summer – Charli’s Apple is also predicted to enter the Top 10 for the first time on Friday (10), as 360 also rises to a new peak midweek (11).

The timing is immaculate, however accidental. She's young enough to be part of the explosion in New Female Pop Music while also being old enough to be a highly respected influence. It's not dissimilar to Pulp's position during Britpop in that regard.

The thing that interests me from a detached viewpoint is how Brat is doing so effortlessly what Crash was specifically built to do but absolutely didn't - break her out as a proper 'pop star'.

Incredible songs aside, I really do think it's because they've managed to turn Brat into so much more than an album, it's almost a lifestyle that people are keen on identifying with again some 2 years after covid and she is selling it as an ambassador so easily. There is also this real-time fly-on-the-wall documentary vibe going on across all her appearances, social media content, dj-ing, performing, partying. I'd say the vision for the album was carefully engineered, but the rollout is also big on vibes.

It's a lot of great work from her / her team amplified by catching zeitgeist lightning in a bottle and running with it.

I did wonder if the new LP edition would give Chappell the necessary lift to the top but look at those sales. Grim numbers.

The album is back up to #2. After 9 weeks it's never gone lower than #6.

A genuine massive hit!

Sorry guys, this might be FAKE NEWS. It appears Little Mix had a UK number one with the seminal 'Black Magic'.

Second British act to earn a UK number one :disco:

I'm sorry but no playlist should have "365" and Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" on it. I'm really questioning whether Barrack Obama can be trusted with a summer playlist.
