Cher - Christmas

So I'm a little confused. It says 'after 3 weeks of decline' (which no Christmas song will have when Nov/Dec rolls around) and also that it won't be applied to a song with fewer than 9 weeks on the chart. And Cher has 7 currently.

But the only reference to how old the song is relates to resets (?)
OK so I THINK that resets are the relevant bit here.

The song will presumably go to ACR once it has hit 9 weeks on the chart plus 3 consecutive weeks of decline, so sometime in January 2026.

Then if it charts again before the three year mark, it can be reset to SCR, but the next time that's likely to happen is Christmas 2026, at which point it's too late for a reset.

So she'll be fine this year.

This is all very theoretical

Charting will be a moot point if Spotify play the usual game of burying her in the playlists behind lots of lovely royalty-free American 1950s DRONINGS.

I can't get my head around that bit, with the 'older than 3 years' and Christmas track exclusion bits.

But if you look at the Ed Sheeran/Elton John track, that did move to ACR in the middle of its run last year when it fell from #9 to #45 while other Christmas songs were still climbing. And that was its 4th year on the chart. Its streams wouldn't have been declining at that point, and it was its 17th week on the chart. So presumably it was the age of the track which did it - it first charted on w/c 16/12/21, and ACR hit 13/12/24.

So that suggests that when it hits three years, it's permanent ACR except for specific requests from the record companies. Up until that point it will have been reset to SCR every time its streams increased enough to merit it.

And the Sheeran/John track peaked at #29 last year after ACR hit, the same week Cher got her 2024 peak of #39 still on SCR.

I think Sheeran/John is the most likely modern Christmas song to become an enduring classic, unfortunately. And massively due to the fact that it gets so much better playlisting than most of the others (and certainly Cher specifically).

Yes it must be. And therefore it can't apply to Cher this year, but will from Christmas 2026, assuming she gets one more week on the chart before that.

DJ Play a Christmas Banger has re-entered the UK singles chart! :disco:

Still think she needs to release Alexa play a Christmas song

I'd love her to beat the peak of #18 this year.

Get the song streaming at your office parties my dears. Get that prosecco guzzled and Andrea from Accounts slut dropping to it. Cwej will be outside with his clipboard ready to take data and send on to the OCC Let the operation commence :disco:

She re-entered the same week last year at #80, going on to peak three weeks later at #39.

She's way down the main Spotify Christmas playlist though. That has fucked her over every year so far.

I was just listening to this album. 'Angels in the snow' really is the best song of all-time!

HPOTW

It's not as good as DJ, but then I don't think any recent Christmas songs are. It still slaps.

I wish Spotify hadn't bundled it with the Kelly Clarkson version for the 'single' though.

this is fucking awful. it sounds made by AI. not a memorable hook anywhere to be found.

I don’t see why I would ever listen to this when DJ Play A Christmas Song and Angels In The Snow exist and do the same thing but actually catchy with listenable vocals.

I'm hoping she doesn't bring out a new version of the album so I have to spend a lot of money for the extra song.

Cher FORCES us to by her singals, Albams and GELATO!

Good. It needs to cement itself as a favourite before ACR hits next year.

And for spotify playlist curators to fucking acknowledge it.
