More DODGY GROUND for the forum but where's the fun if it's all TEN OUT OF TEN THE WHOLE TIME

But I remember how this hilariously became hailed as some kind of modern classic circa 2003/4 for a certain type of internet gay

How has it fared six years on Moopy?

Lou's pretty much rated the songs as I would. When it's good it's GREAT but it does drag in some parts. (Underappreciated :|). 7 or 8 for me. *ponders*

too much schmaltzy shit at the end. The album should have finished on Dirrty.

OOPS. I think I was a bit harsh, i'd actually give it a 6.

Not great but still her finest album. Let's get rates for Christina Aguilera and Back To Basics going so we can REALLY see the FUR FLY

I think it's excellent from start to finish...

It doesn't quite have enough going for it to warrant a 10 or 9, but its got a great overall standard. I was VERY surprised...

Chrissy really needs to learn to reign in

a) HER VOICE
b) HER RUNNING TIME

if she ever wants to make a great album

Which she clearly does - what the fuck was Back to Basics if it wasn't a complete MISFIRE at making an Album of the Year

It's weird one for me. I partly love it, partly hate it. For me it only really starts to get into first gear from "Cruz" onwards. I love all those cliched self-help songs like Soar. Spreading wings and all that shit. Most of what comes before it is insufferable (with a couple of exceptions).

It needs pruning and is no where near as good as delirious internet gays made it sound, but a fair effort from someone I loathe.

A bloated mess - it's laughable about how she makes out that it's stripped of all the hype, when really it's more bloated and glossy than your average Janet Jackson album.

That said, Cruz is FABULOUS and the sub-gospel Soar and Mariahisms of The Voice Within are a guilty pleasure. The Sugababes rip-off song was a bit gratuitous. And on "Beautiful" she finally delievered a vocal that lived up to her voice - though notice how she always dodges the "the sun will always shineeeeeee" note live.

Overall, bitch just doesn't have the songs, but she came closest here. Her voice is already in decline on that ABORTION of a latest effort, expect her comeback to be full of Winehouse rip-offs (what she was aiming at on that album in the first place).

After Walk Away, Soar is the best thing on there

It is the song I've been waiting for Mariah to record for literally TENS OF YEARS

It is a bit long, but I love her voice, she's a great songwriter, the lyrics are interesting, the melodies are strong and the production is glossy. There isn't a single track I dislike, so it gets a 10 from me.

It's good definitely. But yes far too long. The first few tracks are nice, but from 7-10 or around that stage it's absolutely boring. Dull, dull, dull. Then oddly picks up for a good 5-6 tracks until it dies with the last two again being so dull.

If trimmed down to 12 odd songs and an intro/interlude or two it'd be brilliant.

This tracklisting would have been INFINITELY PREFERABLE:

Stripped Intro
Can't Hold Us Down
Walk Away
Fighter / Primer Amor Interlude
Infatuation / Love's Embrace Interlude
Loving Me For Me
Beautiful
Get Mine, Get Yours
Dirrty
Stripped Part 2
The Voice Within
Keep On Singin' My Song

b-sides:
Impossible
Underappreciated
Make Over
Cruz
Soar
I'm OK

Make Over is shit. Come to think of it, I don't think Underappreciated is even B-SIDE MATERIAL

I actually really like Cruz and Soar (and Impossible is good) but the album's VERY ballad heavy and I think it'd be okay to lose them.

I'm OK is just self indulgent bollocks.

I don't think it's a fantastic album, but there's a lot of fantastic SONGS on there.

The weak songs for me are Soar (very outdated and too screechy), Underappreciated, and I'm OK (Personal, maybe, self indulgent to a sickening level, definitely).

I think they handled the singles in the right way, but I always wanted Cruz to be released. I was going to say in replacement of The Voice Within, but I think TVW, was a better song suited for Christmas.

Either way Cruz is the single that never was. I would have put Get Mine, Get Yours out over Can't Hold Us Down too. Too screechy.

Wasn't there some confusion over Infatuation? I'm sure there were rumours that it was going to be released. She obviously liked the song a lot as it was the first song she ever performed and the first time anyone had ever heard anything from Stripped.

This was when I was a big fan, not so much now.

And whilst we're talking about Christina, I would really recommend her Stripped Live DVD. It's ace.

Manchester for me. I don't think I've ever seen as many clones as I did that night :D

10 Can't Hold Us Down - Love the minimalism and Lil Kim's rap is just wonderful
08 Walk Away
10 Fighter - Classic.
08 Infatuation
09 Loving Me For Me - A sultriness I had no idea she was even capable of
08 Impossible - Terrific bridge
09 Underappreciated - Very surprised by the widespread disdain for this
09 Beautiful - Never did like this but for some reason it's endeared itself to me of late. I must be feeling subconsciously crushed inside.
08 Make Over - This really is a bizarre inclusion. Nothing like the rest of the album and not even bothering to attempt any vocal restraint. Kudos for the sheer cheek of it though.
07 Cruz
07 Soar
08 Get Mine, Get Yours
06 Dirrty - It's okay but it's a total mess really
09 The Voice Within
07 I'm OK - If ever a song smacked of Linda Perry... this is just My Vietnam again
09 Keep On Singin' My Song

This is my first proper listen in absolutely ages and I'm quite astounded. I remember virtually hating it all but it's BLOODY GOOD :o

10 Can't Hold Us Down
10 Walk Away
08 Fighter - too shouty
08 Infatuation
09 Loving Me For Me
09 Impossible
09 Underappreciated
08 Beautiful - overplayed - obv a 10 otherwise
04 Make Over - yuck
08 Cruz
09 Soar
10 Get Mine, Get Yours
10 Dirrty
08 The Voice Within
05 I'm OK - ugh
06 Keep On Singin' My Song

AMAZING

If it was cut down to

Can't Hold Us Down
Walk Away
Fighter
Infatuation
Loving Me For Me
Impossible
Underappreciated
Beautiful
Cruz
Soar
Get Mine, Get Yours
Dirrty
The Voice Within

(i.e. cut out Make Over, I'm OK, Keep On Singin')

it would be such a 10/10 album.

I still listen to Beautiful on a regular basis

I've got the DON'T LOOK @ ME whisper down pat

I don't love it. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I don't even LIKE it.

Individually the singles are great, I don't think there's one that I didn't like. But as an album it just leaves me a bit COLD, perhaps because the only consistent thing about is her FOGHORN voice.

08 Can't Hold Us Down

09 Dirrty
08 The Voice Within

Still a hot album eight years later, I really liked the interludes at the time too :shy:

:disco:

I've always written this album off as patchy with some great highlights, but I think I am FINALLY onboard with it almost a decade later. It's just bloody BRILLIANT

Sometimes I think you have the pop music equivalent of LEARNING DISABILITIES Slave

Some of us were on board back in 02!
