I think Stripped may have been the first time I became aware of what it was to have a QoL moment and a HOT SLUT MOMENT simultaneously

So YAY Christina (in a good way)

It's the way it flits between TWENTY ONE tracks of screaming ROCK, Scott Storch (FU!) slut synth, Alicia-lite power soul and ODES TO ABUSE.

Quality control-Tina was BORN in 2002 :disco:

My 8 seems about right, I can't remember the last time I listened to it in full, it's just far too long and a bit bloated for that. The highlights (mainly Fighter and The Voice Within) are among the best things she's ever done though.

I know that quality control remark is to be taken in jest but I honestly do think it's quite amazing just how solid almost every proper track on the album is (not including those stupid interludes). There's very little I would ever skip.

a 4 for Impossible LOU? I mean I do love a cheesy soulfest as much as funky does and this just HITS the right (replay/loop) buttons for me :disco:

Play some for me Alicia
*hits random piano notes* WHATCHU WANNA DO GURRL
I've got something on my mind
:daf: :disco:

I am still HOT about this right now:

10 Can't Hold Us Down
07 Walk Away
09 Fighter
08 Infatuation
05 Loving Me 4 Me
06 Impossible
07 Underappreciated
06 Beautiful (works in the context of the album but still, no thanks)
06 Make Over
10 Cruz
10 Soar
10 Get Mine, Get Yours
10 Dirrty
11 The Voice Within
07 I'm OK
09 Keep On Singin' My Song

The second half of the album is pretty much wall to wall MAX TRACKS

You gave a 5 to my favourite off the album :eyes: I'm going to listen in a bit and re-rate, I feel like it's that time of the month

The album's a bit of a classic. Not because of it's quality necessarily, but Dirrty and Beautiful are classics in a way that I doubt she'll ever match - more so than even Genie In A Bottle. It does sag, but I loved the indulgence of it at the same time, because she was young enough to get away with it (whereas now she really ought to know better). The front cover is one of my favourites of all time.

04 Can't Hold Us Down (I want to like this so bad, but it's fucking shit)
07 Walk Away
08 Fighter
06 Infatuation
07 Loving Me For Me
05 Impossible
04 Underappreciated
10 Beautiful
08 Make Over
10 Cruz
10 Soar
09 Get Mine, Get Yours
10 Dirrty
07 The Voice Within
03 I'm OK
10 Keep On Singin' My Song

Can't believe I gave this an 8.

I mean it's decent (for HER) but it's no In The Zone :disco:

Move my HIPS to the BASSLINE
Lemme GET MINE
You get YOURS!
(But don't fall in LOVE!)

:disco:

I forgot how much I LOVE Make Over. I wish it was a bit less restrained though.

I'm OK really is one of the worst songs I've ever heard :D what a turd! And a shameless clone of (the much superior) My Vietnam to boot.

As far as Batteredchildtina goes, I MUCH prefer Oh Mother

I'm in such a Legendtina place in my life right now. I even enjoyed pretending to SCREAM along to The Right Man the other day! Defintely the song Whatevar needs to walk down the aisle to.

I wish it was a bit less restrained though.

HA, I hope you're being sarcastic :disco:

I do love it though for that very reason, although my ears appreciate it a bit less now than they did in 2002.

I do feel like the slower tempo songs aged a lot better than the uptempos. "The Voice Within", "Soar", "Loving Me For Me" all sound a lot better to me now than they did at the time.

Like the lady herself, her MAXEST of MAX TRACKS are AGING GRACEFULLY!

Her voice and technique really was spot on here. Not an ad-lib out of place.

Having listened to both Fighter and Get Mine, Get Yours for about an hour each on a loop the other day, they're both back to 10s. I was starting to think I used to hate TVW more than I did, but 7 is about right. I'm OK is actually kind of fun as a souvenir for how many chaotic ways of saying your life has been harder than everyone else's, so it's tempting to give it more. I'd probably lower Underappreciated to a zero as being boring is simply unforgivable for an Xtina album track.

It's GOOD but not THAT GOOD

Her best album for sure though and it holds eternal memories of my first FIRE ISLAND SUMMER with some ARCHETYPAL NYC QUEENS asking me if they should purchase it or not after me playing it NON STOP round the pool

Needless to say, the whole HOUSE LOT OF THEM were down the Virgin Megastore on Time Square (R.I.P.) handing over their cash the minute the train home pulled into PENN STATION :disco:

Oh Chrissy, are you just back from Fire Island?

I've been invited to go stay with friends after NY Pride next summer. SHALL I GO?

I'm back indeed!

Oh RB, you simply MUST go. Physically it's like no place I've ever found elsewhere: no roads + no cars + all boardwalks = a truly unique place. Socially it's as ridiculous/amazing as you want to make it. Added to which, it's very hard to visit without CONTACTS (no one worth their SALT stays in the crappy hotel/motel in Fire Island Pines!), so trot along and see what you think.

Let me know when you're thinking of going, as I'm SURE to be back next year :disco:

This tracklisting would have been INFINITELY PREFERABLE:

Get Mine, Get Yours
Dirrty

I was contemplating listening to this yesterday. But then the thought of being shrieked at for 80 minutes made me feel slightly ill so I put on Jessie Ware instead.

It's very much something I have to be in a CERTAIN MOOD for.

It's patchy, but the highs are all excellent. Walk Away should have been a single.

Basically this. The album is like a tech demo of Xtina's voice rather than a conceptual album.
