Christmas is on the way, have you started shopping? I have some ideas in mind and my shopping WILL begin next week

Merry Christmas in advance Moopy x

I've bought ONE present so far, but I've downloaded a ton of Christmas horrors and started working on my Christmas playlist so I feel like I'm off the marks. I've also planned out every lights switch-on I'll be attending.

Yes, but only because I have stupid amounts to buy for and I like to put a little bit of thought in to each and every one of them. I have yet to find someone here to drop them all off to wrap them all though. I’ll be back to Scotland a few times in between so may use the lady there. 🤔

Nothing actually bought yet but I'll need to get down to it - my nephew's birthday is the end of November so I usually buy stuff, put his birthday together and then see what's left and build his Xmas from there.

I’m behind. So much to do. I’ve done my Christmas cake, pickled my onions and made my Christmas chutney, though, so it’s not a total wipeout.

I’m putting my decs up early this year around the 26th November and I don’t care- we’re away for Christmas so I want to get into the action early to make the most of it. I take mine down day after Boxing Day usually.

I’ve also invested in a nice new Christmas duvet cover.

The family are getting vouchers this year, saves on wrapping and thinking endlessly for hours about what they might want.

I am usually quite last minute but I have surprised myself by ordering online for my goddaughter as I will be seeing them on 3rd December so want to take their stuff with me for that. When I say I am usually last minute, I am more organised than that, I usually have a LIST, but the LIST doesn't see much ticking off until mid December and a few man-dashes around Westfield etc.
Oh I have also ordered some christmasy wrapping and label bits from TEMU

I took my mother for brunch a couple of Saturdays ago and ended up in a decorations for the balcony spending frenzy.

I pick up bits and pieces throughout the year and then forget and end up with multiple things for the same person.

I do enjoy getting people gifts but as I get older I increasingly think it’s a pointless exercise as you’re just cancelling each other out with purchase. Most things I really want or need I already have. For me it’s more about sharing nice food and drink together and really think I’d prefer everyone to save their money and just go out for nice times instead.

I know one present that I'm buying for Mr F, other than that I'm just as disorganised as usual. I did pick up a bath toy for SoS in the supermarket the other day, it was a wind-up bright pink shark bath toy that plays Baby Shark but when I got near the till I noticed it was for 18 months+ and was ÂŁ23 so I put it back again.

Spawn gave me a 3D printed bauble she had made for me, it looks really weird until you switch the light on inside it and suddenly there's Ridley's big dog head grinning back at you. I don't think the battery will last until the tree goes up, I keep just looking at it, it really is wonderful.

Aww, that's LOVELY. Really thoughtful and clever too.

Haven't bought anything yet but as usual, I'll be buying a book for my mom and a diary for my dad and am hoping we'll get a couple of days off work so we can go and visit them.
For xmas decorations, we'll be using what we have accumulated in the storage through the years.

I’m in London from 24th November to the 5th and I can’t decide whether to put my tree up before or not. I also wanted to go early this year but my initial plan of 1st Dec is now not possible!

I've done most of my shopping (Brother-in-law + 2 nephews + 1 niece) while in Peru for a total of 25€ :D :disco:

I still have gifts for mom + sister to take care of.

Do it. Otherwise you lose valuable Christmas lounging time.

I used to think it was hideously common but I realised I enjoy the build up to Christmas more than anything else and therefore, fuck it.

I’m exactly the same! Christmas build up is better than Christmas itself. The music and films don’t have the same feeling anymore come Boxing Day. I’ll still go out and make the most of the time off but it’s not very Christmassy anymore.

My only wish this Christmas is not to be tricked into spending 3 hours on a train to spend four days in a PLAGUE HOUSE.

Last year both my mum and dad neglected to mention they were ill / clearly had advanced COVID until I turned up at the door to find them both literally bedridden, because they didn’t want to “ruin Christmas”.

I had to text my brother and his partner driving up from Brighton to tell them to turn around as it was all a TRAP, then spend the entire festive season breathing out of an open window, sitting as far away from them as possible and trying to keep my mother from hacking all over the Turkey.

Honestly, the psychosis of elderly parents around the festive season needs to be studied.

I haven't even thought about it yet, doing Thanksgiving (for the first time ever :o) in a couple of weeks so will get that out of the way first! I'm expecting Christmas to be pretty low key this year though.

Can we use this thread to talk about new Christmas music (That Isn't Cher)?

Slim pickings so far but this my frontrunner, it's lovely

@dUb have you heard this yet

No, haven't listened! I will give it at least 10 plays at some point

PS Happy Birthday!! x x x x x x x x

I've spent TWO WHOLE HOURS trying to buy Christmas presents online and trying to build a Christmas list for myself and failing miserably.

What DO you buy a 1 year old these days ANYWAY?

A cardboard box to play with
This reminds me a few years back and my nephew around that age was more fascinated by an empty Quorn burger box he’d somehow acquired than any present.

With my nephews I don’t buy them anything as they always get way too much so I opened them all kids’ savings accounts and put money in at Christmas and birthdays, I let them press the transfer money button themselves on my online banking so they’ve some semblance of something happening.

PRETTY MUCH.

But that's also kind of the point. I HAVE to buy a present...but there is going to be zero need or want for anything.

I've started buying her every vinyl album on the date of her birthday so by the time she's 18 she has an amazing collection (well hopefully- the Rolling Stones put a spanner in my works this year, BUT...) but for Christmas, I can't work out QUITE what to do. With my great nieces and nephews, they get so much, I have opened Premium Bonds accounts and thrown ÂŁ100 at them which lasts 3 years of Christmas/ Birthdays, but this is a (close) friend's baby so that doesn't really feel right.

Buy them something experiential. I used to hate how much crap ron jr got. Its a cliche but age really does disappear so fast, so anything that creates a memory would be cherished.

I'm all over this...but AGED ONE? What IS there?

(I say this as a non- parent who has FUCK ALL idea and for the LOVE OF GOD, I'm not wandering around some SOFT PLAY HELL HOLE for anyone)

In other news, any good LONDON CHRISTMAS SHIT I should be getting involved in? I'm there 16th-17th December, I have our annual Christmas meal booked on the Saturday night with some dear old friends and have booked to go to Dennis Severs' house on the Saturday lunchtime, but now it appears the Sunday I am surprisingly free as our plans have been cancelled, so I might make a FESTIVE WEEKEND of it.

Any tips?

Fuck it

Mum's DEAD, Dad's off with his new FANCY WOMAN, Mr Clun is SUICIDAL and his parents are INSANE :D

The album is out dub! It's nice! Best version I've ever heard of Jingle Bells anyway. I like that she's kept it funky and soulful and not too gimmicky.
