I love Ciara.

One of R&B/pop's most reliable presences is BACK with album #7 in May, first record in 4 years, titled Beauty Marks - here's the cover :disco:

Here's the latest single Thinkin Bout You, which may or may not be the same song as Jason DeRulo's Want to Want Me - I played both back to back and was unable to confirm. It's amazing anyway, pop Ciara is always so warm and lovely.

Album contains Level Up which managed a decent Hot 100 run (#59 peak) and went a bit viral, plus the earlier singles Dose and the rather good Freak Me

1. I Love Myself ft. Macklemore
2. Level Up
3. Set
4. Thinkin Bout You
5. Trust Myself
6. Girl Gang ft. Kelly Rowland
7. Dose
8. Na Na
9. Freak Me ft. Tekno
10. Greatest Love
11. Beauty Marks

I properly loved the last album

I Bet was totally my jam back in the day

Thinkin Bout You really does sound like Jason Derulo :D

Is she independent these days?

She is independent, which seems to be the best scenario for her. I didn't love Jackie - it had 2 or 3 great songs (Kiss & Tell, That's How I'm Feelin, I Bet) but was not a patch on Ciara which is easily her best album.

I think this may be another Jackie with a mixed bag of sounds and quality, but she always brings a new Cici classic or 2 and that's fine with me

Oddly enough I don't know much of her work post around the second album, but she has had a few I've rather enjoyed (Like A Boy, Love, Sex & Magic etc).
Is much of her stuff rather poppy? As I quite like that side of her and feel I should investigate some of her albums.

I like "Thinkin About You"

And I concur with @Jark, Ciara is a great album.

In the middle of the highway
Me in my bed
R. Kelly on the radio
Let it play

Probably hasn't aged the best though :D

she might've had a chance if the video wasn't so tacky and singularly conceived to show off her arse.

as it is, it's shit.

Overdose was her BEST chance of having a hit post love.sex.magic but what the fuck happened? it was a BOP for the ages and not that wishy washy r&b beige shit she peddles every once in a while. sure it fits her voice and her limited range but a bop is a bop cici.

@Jark have you listened to the album yet?

Nothing hits quite as hard as Level Up but I really like the Macklemore duet and I can see Beauty Marks (song) being something I go back to a lot

Na Na is a nice pop moment and Beauty Marks is lovely but she's done everything here better before. It's an underwhelming effort. You can tell she's blissfully happy but it doesn't make for the most exciting record.

Beauty Marks is similar to I Got You from the last album

I’ve listened through a couple of times now and I really think the standout is I Love Myself but yes I agree this is very much an extension of what she’s done before
