Looking forward to this, but for me, the guests could be better for the first ep.
 
I think Jeff and Vanessa are good bookings. Would have liked Lisa Kudrow letting people know about The Comeback starting back next month!
 
It feels like a classic kind of Graham Norton line up in terms of structure, just that all the ingredients could be a little stronger.
 
I randomly rewatched this (how long did Nigella have her chat show? 😅)

and thought a few Claudia impressionists coming on the show at some point would be interesting. :laugh:

I enjoyed on the whole but hated the fact they had audience members with anecdotes about the topics the guests has been supposedly spontaneously talking about.

It was all a bit odd when the lady with the dog came out. I thought quite daytime actually. There's a fine line with the set and audience too between Prime American chat show and The Alan Titchmarsh show.
 
Just finished watching, not bad overall, but I don't see it lasting long. ☺️ I liked the obscure discussions about sofa colours, animals, and pencils :D the guests chatted a lot, a bit of music, nice involving a few audience members and the dog though a bit daytime-ish too, but I feel like there should've been more of Claudia. It was also a little scattered where she announced the release/premiere dates. 😅 Maybe with a different bunch it could work better, but I think one-on-one discussions/duos are more of her style.

She should go the whole Mrs Merton if she's doing audience anecdotes. I've not got that far yet though. Julie still seething over the furniture comment with every cut-to she gets. It's very darkly lit - are they going to vote a guest off halfway through or something?
 
Getting lukewarm reviews, some saying that there is room for a gentler and more intimate atmosphere which I agree with, but it was quite chaotic too which is not a bad thing giving Claudia herself can be, but there needs to be quite the few tweaks, I think.

The guest line up for next week doesn't look too strong either, Niall Horan seems top of bill from what I can remember.

I think anything that wasn't a straight copy of Graham Norton will take time to bed in and open to early criticism, but equally it would be criticised if it did just copy his show.

I've not watched yet, but am quite in favour of a bit of chaos, although I'm not sure BBC1 is necessarily the place for it. But it was a huge part of why I loved Late Night Lycett.
 
I read a Mail Online HIT PIECE saying she can't attract the same calibre of guests as Norton, but also that it has the same guest booker and production company and is literally in the same slot. I think it's more bad luck than anything else.

That said, next week's line really up IS meh. Niall, Guz Khan, Joanne McNally and Rachel Zegler.

The week after she has Lisa Kudrow at least, albeit with Jimmy Carr and Chase Infiniti
 
Yeah, the not attracting the same calibre of guest is bullshit. It's clearly just because those guests don't have anything to promote at the moment.

To be honest I thought Norton's guests had been weaker by his standards towards the end of the run.
 
I mean it is Oscar season, there are people with films to promote - you're not telling me the strongest she could get is Niall, Guz Khan (WHO?), Chase Infiniti and Rachel Zegler.
 
Delighted at Lisa Kudrow coming over to promote The Comeback although she was the only remaining Friends cast member not to have done Norton so it’s a shame he missed her by a few weeks.

Its not that sort of chaos! Infact its more subdued, its rather there is no format and anything goes, which again, is to be expected on the first episode, apparently according to an audience member Claudia was visibly 'bricking it' and Jeoff Goldbloom was impossible to contain which they cut out most of. The more I think about it, I hope she's given a chance to find her stride past one season.

Yes, she's so big for them at the moment I reckon they will try hard to make it work.
 
The Guardian review banging on that four guests is too many, when that is the norm for Norton, plus musical act.

In retrospect Goldblum was a bit hard work for the first episode. Shame that they didn't have a musical performance (and no obvious space for one either).
 
I wonder if the no musical guest is going to continue, I think if Niall Horan performs or not next week will be telling. It would be a shame as i think a big act performing can be a draw for people, and also geeks like me who NEED and WANT more vehicles for music promo other than the current market leads, Sunday Brunch and The One Show.
